What can you tell me about the crono-matic? Like why is the winder on the left side? Anything else you can tell me about them?

I am looking at this one

the original Chrono-Matic were launched in the late 1960s, the first automatic chronographs in mass production, although the Zenith El Primero was announced a little earlier, but shipped a bit later.

Called Cal. 11 it was based on a movement co-developed by Breitling, Heuer and Hamilton-Bueren and due to technical reasons had to position the crown at the "9" position on the left. The watch you show was launched as a tribute to the original Chrono-Matic and had the same crown position, on later versions Breitling moved the crown to the normal "3".

It's not a proper chrono-matic unless it has a left hand crown in my books!

It is a terrific watch only produced for two years until Breitling messed it up, put the crown on the "wrong" side, plopped a full rubber bezel on it and made it 49mm.


But then I'm a bit partial -
