Yes and no. They have introduced new models in the last few years (Planet Ocean), and have made substantial changes to existing models during that time (Aqua Terra, Planet Ocean again). What I appreciate, though, is that they don't fix what isn't broken about a classic like the SMP. It was introduced back in 1995, and while it has evolved, it is still recognizable as the same model; only now, it's better than ever. That's my idea of progress. I wish I could say the same about some of Breitling's classics. It is so frustrating to see that many of my favorite Breitlings - Chronomat, Crosswind, Headwind, Cockpit, Blackbird - are either discontinued, or have been modified to the point where they are no longer the same watch. Change isn't always a good thing.

I have always liked the look of the SMP. Had one a few years ago, the older sword hands and the 1120 movment, before the coaxial. Sold it, and always regretted it. Watched the minor changes since then, but when they did the last update, I found one I liked even better!
Still love my older model 36mm Rolex Explorer I, and will be getting an Omega Speedmaster, original with hesalite crystal and mechanical manual wind. So yes, that is one of the appeals to me for Omega.
As far as change goes, I don't mind it if it's something I feel not just for something superficial, like making a watch larger because it's trendy. Unfortunately, that's what Breitling is doing a lot. I have to say, though, that I liked the new Seawolf when it came out a few years ago, hope they don't change that for a while.
I used to love the Colt Quartz, one of the best quartz watches, and still is, with the thermocompensated, accurate movement. The cosmetic changes they made this time, I actually like, but why they had to make it even bigger, I don't know.

Cheers,
Carl

I like a watch for what it is and not a brand, and I like this watch allot.
In fact too much :(
That means I will probably have to buy one....I hate that :!:
What I don't like are these OVER SIZED watches.
I've got an Adriatica big date pilot I've worn about four times.
At 43.5mm it's too big for me.
Why can't they make the 40-42mm also?
They already have the dies and everything?

Given how so many Breitling fans seem to love the larger watches, I thought I was odd man out for preferring watches between 39mm and 42mm. You've got me beat, insofar as you have a larger wrist than I do (mine is 6.5 inches), and prefer smaller watches than I do. But generally speaking, I'm with you: Breitling's general trend toward larger - arguably absurdly large - watches leaves me cold. And while I do find it slightly encouraging that Breitling is throwing us a bone with the Chronomat 41, the styling is still too garish, and the price too high for what it is, for me to be that interested.

Nice watch. Wear it in good health. I am not an Omega fan because to me, they all look the same. Years have gone by and they still look like they did 10 years ago. Yeah new dials, different materials, etc., but essentially, to me, the same watch. Maybe that's the appeal to Omega lovers? I really don't get it...but I guess that's the beauty of the phrase "to each their own."

I am not hating on Omega, just pointing out my view.

Agreed, but I've always found them reasonable in a "for the money" fashion. Now that they're pricing their PO models up against the likes of the submariners, things have gotten a bit ridiculous.

But hey, if they start selling them for 50% less...
