I appreciate this is in bad taste but I had to share with you all this horrendous watch we had in the shop the other day.

Would you pay the 86000GBP retail for this?

Nice, is that a map of the world on its face and does it light up to show where you are at any one time?

I love when companies put $50000 in diamonds on a watch worth a fraction of that. There's a company here in Toronto that has AP's, lings and anything else all "iced out". THey look hideous.

I'm surprised you let the bloke in the shop with that...

Mmmmmmm, good old Jacob & Co.

The brand sometimes worn by Mr D Beckham..... but I think even he would baulk at something quite that nasty. What a hideous waste of perfectly good raw materials and £86K.

You should have seen it in the "flesh", it was so much more hideous.

Just after I posted this I recieved an Email from World Vision thanking me for my continued sponsorship of two children. They were very grateful and went into detail about how I had managed to save innocent children's lives. How wonderful is that? And then I worked it out that I would have to make over 140 years of donations to equal the same price as this monstrosity. There's something terribly wrong about that.

I just hope the owner is doing something similar.

Nope....Just spending the loot.......Besides what would those starving children do with a watch like that?

I'd say 'add one more to the "never ever would I" thread,' except someone already added all Jacob & Co. specimens to the list. This just shows that was a sensible recommendation.

Which I think demonstrates the problem that Jacob & Co. faces. They actually make some incredible haute horlogerie pieces that have no precious stones anywhere near them, but that get's completely lost because of monstrosities like this.

OK, so to be fair, perhaps not all J&C watches deserve inclusion on that list. But this one sure as hell does. "Monstrosity" seems as apt a term as any for describing it.
