Would it be apparent straight away if a watch was bought second hand and the previous owner had maybe done this and slightly bent the tips of the gears?
The idea that a used watch could appear fine but then problems arise at a later date due to the previous owners negligence is a little worrying.

It may only be apparent on one particular date if it is a bent tooth rather than a fully broken one, but yes a simple run through of all functions when the watch arrives, including running through all dates would show it up.

Thanks Roff.

Sure that is possible. But it is also something you can easily check before buying. Just check that the date changes properly. Either around midnight or/and with the quick change.

That's outside of the 8pm - 3am window, so no issues.

Not all automatics. All Rolex manufactured with the quick date can be changed at any time. I still move to 6:00 to be safe.

That's what Sharkman said - unless it has a quick change date.

He was wrong in one respect though, not just automatics, also manual and many analog quartz.

Understood.

No disrespect to Sharkman. I enjoy his posts and do respect him and his opinlons.

I read here a lot and seldom post.

I apologize if I mis-spoke.

As someone made bad comments on someone else mentioning, that the datechange procedure is also necessary for handwound watches, not only automatic watches, I have to add a surprise for him:

The rule, not to use the quickchange function of the date around midnight should also be observed with most quartz watches!

At least with all those, who have a datewindow.

It does not apply to duodisplay or digital quartz watches, like the Aerospace or a Casio G-Shock, but to almost all others.
