Thanks for the larger pictures; they show me that, although this model is a step in the right direction, the designers still didn't correct what, for me, is one of the fundamental flaws of the whole 01-based Chronomat line, which is a 'kitchen sink,' 'sensory overload' approach to design. I can live with the bezel font, but repeating the same font on the dial, right alongside the more traditional font on the tachymetre ring and date wheel, with yet a different font on the subdials, makes this dial look too busy and unsettled for my tastes. As I said before, the basic Chronomat 44 is growing on me, but when I compare it to chronographs by other brands (the new IWC Spitfire is a good example), the Chronomat is still a bit out there for my own tastes. That's not even touching on the fact that even the most basic one is now approaching five figures in price. For that kind of money, I have to love it, not make excuses for it.

I was going to note the other day - the square does in fact need to go on this model. Far to much happening on the dial to accommodate that. It is the weakest part of the watch IMO.

You're right, this can't even compare to the new IWC Spitfire, that watch is pure beauty to me. I wouldn't buy this watch but I do like that they made a smaller model, change the bezel to a GMT bezel, and brushed it. I don't think it's that busy, the Navi is a busy watch but that's ok. The square on the dial has always pissed me off because it's a major distraction, they need to do away with it. I never liked the target symbol on the Evo either, just leave it plain.

As you said, I'm sure it will be near the 5 digit range, there's no way that I'd ever consider it at that price, but I do like it and I hope this is a step in the right direction for other Breitling models.

I also meant to include the square in my list of what makes 01 Chronomat dials too busy. I don't know why Breitling seems so hell-bent against basic dial textures these days. The sunburst on the a13352 was both simple and gorgeous.

I have to be with JacksonStone on this one - I have seen pics of a similar watch on another thread (and I wouldn't dream of saying this in that thread for fear of offending the guy concerned). What strikes me with this watch is that it seems to be built from 'odds and sods'. Take a look at how many different fonts there are on that face. 1 - the rotating bezel and the 24 hour markers (inside the sliderule), 2 - the sliderule, 3 - the subdials, 4 - the date window. If somebody typed a letter to me in 4 different fonts unless it was for effect, then I would not be too impressed. Hmmm, must try harder. :watchout:

If it comes in black , I like .. lots ! but I as a frequent traveler have a weakness for GMT/Worldtimers/Explorer II's etc
I just cant read the silver hands on a light (white/creme) dial so if it doesn't come in black its useless to me :(

I read on another forum that the Chronomat 44 GMT WR is 200m compared to 500m on the standard Chronomat 44. Does anyone know why it has been reduced? Thinner case back maybe?

I'm guessing that was the 47mm GMT. I'm not surprised it's too big for you. That thing is huge.

No idea, that's just the obvious reason for the reduced WR and Breitling seems to be headed that way so assume that this is the same.

Sorry, I should have put a question mark at the end to make it clearer that it was supposition.

Passed by my AD today. She quoted a price of CHF 8'530 with a croco deployant. No delivery dates though for the moment. She will have that info after Bâle.

That said, here is what today's BaselWorld Newsletter Vol 18 contains:

Chronomat 44 GMT
Breitling introduces the "traveler's chronograph" in a new size suited to all wrists. The Chronomat GMT comes in a new 44 mm diameter ready to conquer all wrists on all continents. This slightly smaller-sized version is also distinguished by its rotating bezel providing a 24-hour third timezone reading. By pulling out the crown and turning it forwards or backwards in one-hour increments enables instant adjustment to the time and date of the place where one is arriving – while maintaining 24-hour home-time display.
