Hi

I am thinking of buying the blackbird blacksteel but have couple of questions:

1. it is a 2010 model. i guess that this year Breitling will come out with a new model. does it make sense to buy this now?
2. its price is USD6480/EUR5370. is this a good price for a high street shop? is its price going to fall after new models are announced in Basel? even if this is a limited serie?

grateful for some advise from experienced breitling owners/buyers!

cheers
garry

Welcome aboard.

In terms of it making sense to buy a 2010 model, it really depends if you like it or not! The BB BS was a limited model and there's no guarantee that Breitling will make anything similar again (although considering Breitling's all-consuming LOVE of DLC these day, I think we'll definitely see some kind of DLC models this year). Basically, if you like the watch, then I'd say snap it up while it's around 'cause it won't be around for ever.

In terms of price, I don't have my price lists to hand so I don't know what the RRP is on this model. If you are looking to buy brand new, I'd suggest contacting one of the forum sponsor AD's - Govberg and Provident in the States, and Andrew Michaels and Banks Lyon on the UK - as they are likely to be able to offer you the very best AD prices.

RRP will NEVER drop on watches ; they only ever go up. However, depending on how well a watch sells, discounts offered may vary over time.

We have no idea what Breitling will or will not release in terms of a new Blackbird, but it won't impact price on the existing one, especially the Blacksteel which is a Limted Edition. In other words, IF Breitiling introduces a new BB this year, it will replace the recently discontinued regular BB, not the BSBB. The BSBB was simply a LE of the BB in a year Breitling was still issuing standard BBs, it wasn't the 2010 version of the BB.

Like Driver8 said, retail list never falls. What an AD is willing to discount depnds on plenty of factors, including - popularity of the model, how long it has been in their inventory, and whether the AD needs to make some sales to keep the electric bill paid or simply clear some display space for new models.

The quoted price sounds reasonable.
