Well, after reading the last few posts I was intrigued so tried this again on the Legende...holding it against my ear, from fully run down, after approx 40 turns of the winder I'm convinced theres a change in sound. The best way I can describe this is thus...
When starting to wind, each small movement of the winder produces a single click. I rotated the winder very slowly and listened rather intently. After the change in sound started (again, assuming it was now fully wound) I again turned the winder very slowly and lo and behold theres an echo ! Theres an extra click when I stop moving the winder. Say I move the winder a few clicks and stop, theres an extra click immediately after, but tinnier, more like a 'ting'. Its not there during the initial winding from run down I'm sure.
I've just tried this on my Tag Chrono as well and its the same....I think....cant replicate it again for a while as all my watches are fully wound, such are the lengths I'm prepared to go to for the benefit of the forum.
Obviously, this isn't an issue, just a bit of interesting trivia...but hey, I'd love to know the mechanics behind this if indeed I'm not mistaken.

Your willingness to experiment makes perfect sense to me which means ALL of us are incredibly bizarre!!!!

But what you desribe it what I hear - a very faint click - your word "echo" is a good description - at the end of the crown turn.

Edit - OK, I just replicated it on the Navi while a staff member stood at my office door looking bewildered.

Automatic watches have a clutch-type design in the mainspring barrel. The outer end of the mainspring is not attached to the barrel like in manual wind watches. It bascially sits in grooves or cutouts in the inner side of the barrel. When the tension on the mainspring is full, the end of the mainspring simply slips out of one groove or serration and comes to rest in another.

Well, close enough

Two years ago I thought the ticking came from tiny little men with really tiny hammers. Progress, not perfection.

Just because you can't see them doesn't mean they're not there.
