Hello guys ..
I havent posted on this forum much..but hey, its never too late, right ?

Would love to know your feedback on these two timepieces from breitling...

Chrono Galactic
and
Breitling Chronomat B01

I have a budget running around 5.5 K ..
so here are the options ..

1? B01 on rubber ..
or
2? Chrono Galactic .. on brushed bracelet ( I tried it and loved it )
or
3? Wait around for a few months, collect some more monii .. and find myself a DSSD [ a grail of sorts for me ]

Ofcourse, the first two options would mean letting go of 2 of my 6 breitlings .. likely a Skyracer + Steelfish/Seawolf Ti //

What do you elders think ? and what would you do ? Which of these pieces holds its resale better ? and has superior features ?
How does breitling's in-house movt. compare with rolex ?

Thanks for reading my post ... your comments will be really appreciated.

Cheers

nishant

Go for the Chronomat 44, it is quite versatile and you see it less often on other people's wrists.

Why would you want to wait and then settle for a Rolex. Just go and get the real mans watch... the Chronomat B01!

If the Deepsea is a personal grail, I'd say DEFINITELY hold out that. It's a false economy to buy second best - trust me on that.

That said, if you like the look of the Chronomat 01, then it's got an in-house chronograph which is a very good thing in my book, so it'd also be a great choice. Personally for me the Chrono Galactic wouldn't even register in the company of the other two.

I recently bought a Chronomat 01 LE, absolutely love it. The 01 is amazing.

Not even close for me: Chronomat B01 all the way...hands down.

Interesting selection of choices, and different enough that it's not altogether clear what you really want. In order for us to advise you better (rather than just tell you what we personally like), it would help to clarify some things. Do you want a chronograph or a three-hand watch? Do you want a big, thick watch, or a more "reasonably" sized watch? Do you want a strap or a bracelet? Do you want an in-house movement, or are you OK with modified ETA? How much water resistance do you need or want?

General thoughts on the models:

- Chronomat 44: a big, flashy chronograph with an in-house movement. I would take it on a bracelet over rubber any day. The Pilot bracelet is one of the great bracelets in all of watchdom, and the 01 Chronomat line features the best endpieces. Personally, I don't like the Buck Rogers bezel, but in brushed it's not all that bad. I personally think the dial styling is a bit over-the-top, and will not age well. Others, of course, disagree with me.

- Chrono Galactic: a descendent of the earlier, 39mm Chronomat. Subject to the same style issues as the Chronomat 44: Buck Roger bezel (no brushed option), and over-the-top dial styling. Obviously, it's a lot smaller than the Chronomat 44, and also comes with a B13 (modified Valjoux 7750) movement, rather than in-house. This might actually be a good thing, since the B13 is a proven workhorse, and costs less. Then again, it lacks the flair of being in-house.

- DSSD: First off, let's get this clear - no human, anywhere, would ever need that much water resistance in a watch. It is literally not possible for humans to dive to those depths outside of a diving bell. So, it's more of a "look what we can do" kind of a watch from Rolex, rather than one with practical application. If that's your thing, then go for it. Some people really love it. Personally, I think it is too big and clunky, and given that its size is a result of all that unnecessary WR, the whole thing strikes me as silly. I can think of any number of Rolexes I would rather have (Sub-C, GMT-IIc, Explorer, Daytona), and for that matter, I would take any of them over either the Chronomat 44 or Chrono Galactic.

One last point: when in doubt, wait. Take it from those of us who haven't followed this advice. Given the kind of money you're spending, you don't want to end up with something you ultimately wish you hadn't bought. That is especially true if you're in the position of having to save and/or sacrifice to afford the purchase. Be clear on what you want before you get it.

You will, therefore, allow me to respectfully agree to disagree with you.

Nevertheless, several good points in your review. :lingsrock:

Thanks 'King' .. really appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts and insight. I am not a big fan of Big Bling and donot use polished bracelets on my breitlings ... and thats the reason I would wonder .. dose any version of chronomat b01 come with brushed bezel/case and brushed bracelet ?

Have a 'scary' Halloween guys..
Cheers

The LE version does. Breitling isn't showing it on their website any more, but I've heard you can still find it at various ADs, if you look around. Also, the Flying Fish has a brushed case. It comes standard with a strap, but some have said that it is possible to order a brushed Pilot to match.

EDIT: Based on context, I just realized you were probably talking about the Galactic Chronograph II, not the Chrono Galactic. The Chrono Galactic is 39mm, and only comes polished. The Galactic Chronograph II is essentially a Chronomat Evolution with a brushed case and a "Galacticized" compass bezel. It is more or less the same size as the B01/Chronomat 44. That actually changes my comments a bit. The GCII does not have the more modernized dial styling, since it's using the classic Evo dials. However, it uses the Buck Rogers font on a compass bezel, which is even dumber looking than the standard Buck Rogers divers bezels, imo. Sorry...I don't mean to piss on your parade, since you like it, but seeing Breitling trying to pass off this model as "new" is rather insulting. It only gets worse when you think how many people would have LOVED a brushed Evo. Sometimes I really wonder if the folks at Breitling are stifling giggles while flipping us the bird.

You could get a good used Sea Dweller (not DeepSea) for what you have saved now. But if it's the DeepSea you want then save for it. I learned from experience not to settle for less than what you really want, which is why I now have the Navitimer 01 LE.
