"Nanny State" sums up the UK in 2 words!

I love my country but hate the way things are going.

Now back on topic:

I've never really looked at knives apart from as a tool. I guess a hand crafted knife is something we can all appreciate almost as much as a fine watch. It takes skill to design and produce - just different - so it doesn't surprise me that there are a fair number of members here who like both.

Stands to reason I guess.

well here in UK your not allowed to carry any sharp objects knife aand even hammers, unless they are specifically for your trade. You run the risk of having you items taken away and further more a caution (maybe more).

I love UK and also LIKE the rules, too many young fools thinking carrying around a knife will make them look hard and get laid...(which in the end it is what is all about 8) )

Hey Admin, I also appreciate the higher end of knives so I can really appreciate that beauty. Saving up for a Chris Reeve at the moment. I am usually caught using a CRKT liner-lock most of the time.

Rules are fine if they are enforced and if those who flout them are punished. Unfortunately the current establishment seems to think that passing nanny-state blanket laws is the simple answer to everything. However the problem we have is that those who are law-breakers continue to do so with impunity because the courts fail to prosecute adequately. For example, I would love to own a genuine Samurai sword for no other reason than I think they are beautiful pieces of art and workmanship from a fascinating time in history. However as they are now banned (unless you are a historic collector) it's unlikely that I'll ever own one.... even though I would never dream of taking it outside of the home. However, as a recent court case in the paper today has shown, a group of young thugs not only were set free after being caught carrying knives, but the court ordered that the police should GIVE THEM THEIR KNIVES BACK!! Something is radically wrong there......

Blanket laws on their own simply penalise and control the lives of law-abiding citizens while doing very little to really stop those intent on committing crime.

Don't get me wrong here - any kind of violent crime needs to be stamped out and people should not carry weapons of any kind. That's a given. But when the police have no "teeth" to stamp it out and while the courts are run by old men who operate from ivory towers and are more concerned about the rights of the criminal than the victim, nanny-state controls will only be adhered to by those who obey the law anyway and would never consider committing a crime in the first place.

(Sorry - bit of a thread hijack here!)

Yeah! Me too! I can't wait to see some of the pics you take and your impressions of the Centofante and William Henry. Two beautiful knives!

CRKT makes some great bang for buck user folders... my only complaint with them is the blade steel and how it gets dull very quickly. Their designs are top notch and they have some of the best names in the business collaborating with them on their designs.

Funny you should say that Admin. For ATS-34 steel I have been a bit suprised on how quickly the edge wears off. CRKT tends to put a thinner edge and lower angle on their folders. I have a Knives of Alaska knife with D-2 too steel that holds an edge much better. Great metal, although it lends itself on the more brittle side.
