For me, I really like Jacksonstone's suggestion on the Aqua Terra.

What dial color(s) are you considering?

As Wesley Snipes would say... "Always bet on black"

This is making things difficult. Even though the dial is grey and I was looking for black, I really liked the Aqua Terra in person... take a look:

I am looking to get my wife another watch now. She really enjoys switching and wearing different watches to work. She has a nice looking Citizen with a mother-of-pearl dial and diamonds, a Tag Aquaracer on SS bracelet, a Burberry, and a Seiko yellow-faced chrono (uni-sex) mid-size.

Back to the topic, I want to get her either 1) a Rolex mid-size DateJust, preferebly 34mm, or 2) a ladies Breitling mid-size with diamonds. My wife is 5'5" and thin, but can pull off the mid-size watches.

It seems that women are wearing larger size watches today.

I tried this watch on at the Omega Boutique in Chicago. Really nice, distinctive but works with everything, especially a dark suit or shirt/tie, and a nice contrast to your CSO. My complaint is that for over $5K now retail, you're paying a lot of money for that 8500 movement. My only other concern is that as lively as the dial is, the rest of the package is sleek but very conservative. This is my personal conundrum with recent Omegas, so sleek and conservative that I worry I would become bored after 6 months.

I appreciate the feedback, I have to check with my guy to see what I would really be looking at $ wise after my discount. Do you have any other suggestions in my range?

If you can get a discount down near 4, it makes a lot more sense. It's sad to say but at that price range, new is tricky. I may do some surfing tonight.

I already know I can get it for 4300, but I'm sure I can do better elsewhere.

Is $4300 out the door, or before tax? If it's out the door, that's excellent, considering Illinois's tax rate. That would actually be a 27% discount, plus tax. If it's before tax, it's still good, given that it's 22% off retail. You might do better, but I wouldn't think by much. 20% - 25% is pretty standard. If you could get $4300 tax free by going out of state, that would be a pretty solid deal.

I think the grey looks good on you, but I'd still like to see the black. Did your AD have any idea when that color would be coming in? It's new this year, so it might take a while.

Just remember, Omega is having a price increase on 9/1 so whatever you're quoted now, might not be the same price when you actually buy this watch, unless you do it within the next week of course.

:yeahthat However, given that you already know the dealer paid the lower price, and he knows you know that, you might be able to persuade him to sell it to you for the lower price even after the increase, assuming it's actually the same watch as before. That's one disadvantage of going with the black dial - unless you are lucky enough to score one in the next week, you'll pay the higher price for it. Personally, though, I'd rather pay a slightly higher price for a black dial than the current price for the grey dial.

Decisions.... yeah, I really did like the grey. They had no idea when the black was coming in. I really do not want to jump the gun and buy this just to save on the increase... hmmm

On another note, I wanted to thank everyone very much for all the feedback! Where else can you get this kind of educated support? This place really is that good...

Yeah, I wouldn't, unless you're good and sure that's the one you want. Impulse buys (or panic buys) on something this expensive are really not a good idea. Take it from someone who's unloaded his last three watch purchases. I now have a general rule that I won't buy any watch I just learned about, or have just seen in person for the first time. It's amazing how I will absolutely swoon for a watch when I first see it, but in a week or two, maybe I'm not so gaga. If, over time, I'm still wanting it, then it's passed the test. Your situation is complicated by the fact that you're not able to compare the grey dial to the black, which is what you originally thought you wanted. That's a double bind. My recommendation would be to give yourself a few days on the grey AT. You have a week before the increase. If you find yourself getting all slutty for other watches over the weekend (again, speaking from personal experience), I'd say you will have gotten your answer. If not, try on the AT again Monday, and see if it still sings to you.

And this community isn't exactly Sexaholics Anonymous. More like Sodom and Gomorrah.
