Shark would be remiss if Shark failed to note the DSM V about to become the newest revision to official diagnostic manual has deleted Narcissistic Disorder. Evidently the psychiatric community has decided being a selfish, self-centered, arrogant prig does not warrant the distinction of formal pathology.

In closing, Shark will quote one of his favorite lines from a screenplay Shark wrote for a little film entitled Airplane –

“Cut me some slack, Jack! Chump don' want no help, chump don't GET da' help!”

(Shark also invented Shark Week…………..and the internet)

Edit: Blech. I feel just awful for responding to an Archie post- disregard.

Justin just read Archie's post on TZ where he talks about buying the VC from a Australian watch dealer and makes no mention of it being the one from his family. Archie, are you only posting on here since the Patek moderator on TZ banned you from TZ?

Hey don't encourage him. That's a badge of honor. :poke:

Between Archie's comeback and Sarah, I must say this has been the most fun week in BSource in a longggg time (well, since Sharkie stopped with his frequent "incoming" posts anyways)

WatchFred apologizes for asking the Troll about the focus of his collection.
WatchFred apologizes for not looking into past Troll posts and videos
WatchFred will have to live on without the Troll advice on life, money, watches, whatever
WatchFred is ashamed.

It's in a state of flux - was taken out completely and then returned in a watered down format 7/21/11, 3 weeks ago. I guess there are those who figure officially ignoring the narcissist could be more than he or she could stand. The final decision hasn't been made and the manual won't come out until 2013.

(shrinks get a period of comment between first draft and final revision. If NPD leaves the manual, it no longer qualifies for insurance payment under most health plans. Oh, but I'm just being cynical.)

How many narcissists does it take to change a light bulb? One. He holds the bulb while the world revolves around him.

How can you tell when a narcissist is lying? His lips are moving.

Why did the narcissist cross the road? To get to the mirror on the other side.

See here's my issue with that. While conceptually I want to believe the tongue in cheek, we find buried in the post the little nugget about the 1.1mm thick Lassale. Well now look here - http://www.thehourlounge.com/thread/vie ... 57953.html where member Archie42 chastised a VC forum for claiming that the VC movement was the thinnest and claiming that in fact it was a Lasalle (sic). The education that he received there is now being stated here as his attempt to educate (I think we can all agree that part isn't tongue in cheek).

I also recall one of Archie's earliest threads where he posted virtually the same thing word for word here and on a Rolex forum (that he was later banned from) with just one key difference, see this thread - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6067

And so we have "Archie's Dilemma". If the man/woman/whatever writes in such a way that it is commonly perceived as farce (my personal take) or elitism (and if full credit given, also with the object of thought-provocation of the "little people" just to further prove his perceived higher station), then the real technical knowledge or information that might be added is diminished. That's unfortunate for watch enthusiasts, but also for Archie, if he desires to educate or be objectively considered knowledgeable in the field.

I haven't looked too deeply into the archives on this poster, because I find it unworthy of my time. But one thing is true of Joe Poster, Noel Coward or the Upper-Class Twit of the Year. If you aren't taken seriously as a result of the bulk of your message, real insight or information in that message is likely to be disregarded, and therefore a waste of the effort. One can be too cute, and if so, as Joe Poster might remark, "Sucks for him."

I think that's a very accurate assessment, and other members ave suffered for similar reasons, though perhaps with less of the 'Noel Cowads' about them and with less extreme of a reaction (many may still be sadly lacking in self awareness).

What I don't understand is why there isn't more maturity (or at least growth) in order to address those issues, unless there is a desire to stoke self pity, which I guess again brings us back to "Sucks for him."

What about a person who refers to himself in the third person with a name that isn't even his?
