So... iv been playing around with the buffing machine and ultrasonic cleaner again! but with a slightly better outcome. I decided not to put the watch into the cleaner but give my skyland a brushed satin finish:

Sorry about the crappy photos, i had to use my phone. Im not finished yet as i need to do the back. i wanted to go along the seawolf look and leave the sides polished and use vertical lines on the case. Ive ALWAYS wanted to do this and all in all im very happy!

Oh god...not the ultra sonic cleaner AGAIN???????? Haven't you learned from the first disaster? :poke: LOL

It actually looks pretty good though...nice work. I always though the Avenger would look much better with a brushed finish.

I've been thinking about doing the same thing to my AS. My Steelfish is brushed and i could alternate my Pro2 bracelet between them (i have end links for both). Did you take the bezel off to do it? Was the difficult?

yeah i did, that was fine, its getting the masking tape on the bits you want to remain polished and making sure the brushed lines stay strait is the fiddeley part. its not hard though, just take your time :lingsrock:

That looks great brushed - better in fact that the standard polished version IMO. Nice job.

Oh, cool. So, what's the whole procedure for the whole shebang?

remove the bezel
tape the areas you don't want polished.
buff away.
remove tape
attach bezel
done?

What did you use to brush it up? Any technique pointers?

Did you brush the bracelet to match, or is there a brushed bracelet that already matches?

yeah prety much. it went:

1) remove bezel
2) remove bracelet
3) tape the areas (including the sides of the bracelet), be anal with it.
4) buff the bracelet then put it in the ultrasonic cleaner with the bezlel (ahhhhhh old freind!)
5) buff the case (DO NOT PUT IN ULTRASONIC CLEANER)
6) clean all of it with a tooth brush and washing up liquid
7) i then used a abrasive stick (basicly a stick with wet and dry paper on it) to lightley brush the little bits that the buffing wheel couldent get to.
8 ) put it all back together!

and i used this to brush it up:

Not exacly evreyone has on of theys lying around but thankfully my work has one!!

I've read of a couple of instances where polishing machines have caused issues, but generally more vibration related rather than magnetism realted as te magnetic field drops off fairly dramatically away from the source. Still, with a powerful enough motor and short spindles it's definitely a potential issue.
