The chronograph second hand on my legend has a "choppy" operation as it rotates and is not smooth like the chrono on my other breitlings. The watch keeps great time and the chrono is accurate as far as I can tell. Has anyone had this problem? Does my watch need a service, it's around 3-4 years old and hasn't had one...

I have experienced this problem as have one or two other members on here. It seems to be a peculiarity of the ETA 77xx series movement. The Legende has a Caliber 23 movement which is based on an ETA 7753, so I think this applies in your instance. It is simply a matter of adjustment - a tiny, tiny adjustment of a spring tension so I was told by a BUK technician who refurbed my watch. You will need to send it for expert attention.

Yup, I think its time for a service. They'll fix it and have it back to you working well and looking good

As ike says, it's a tension issue with a spring in the chronograph mechanism. If you are going to get it fixed now then a service may as well be done as well, but if you can live with it then I would wait until the watch needs servicing and get the full 5 - 7 years between services. Obviously mention it as a specific issue which ever route you take.

It doesn't particularly bother me but should I avoid running the chrono because of this spring issue? I think I will send the watch in for a service and polishing in the next few months and mention the issue. If BUSA recommends only a service and not a complete overhaul that would be ideal. Ive sent in my CSO and they said a full overhaul was required which was around $500 while Ive also sent in my SA and they said only a service/polish was needed and it was half the cost of the overhaul so I guess I'll see what the damage is when I send it in later. I'm reluctant to part with it seeing as it runs flawlessly except the chrono issue but I guess that's why I have 2 others to wear...

Running the chrono won't cause any damage.
