I have a Breitling Super Avenger and have been on the look out for a used PAM - to fill the "dress watch" space.
I have an opportunity to buy a 2006 PAM104 or a 2010 PAM287 for about $4100 each.

I like the crown guard and hence favor the 104, but I like the larger size and the 287 - a Radiomir Black Seal seems a little more exclusive.

Any advice from PAM owners? Which is a better deal?

It's a coin toss if you ask me. Based on why you want to purchase one, it's really a matter of personal preference/choice. If I had to choose based on the need of having a "dress" watch, I'd go with the 287.

Also, I think those are intersting choices to fill a "dress watch space. While I feel my PAM is very versatile and have no problem wearing it with a nice suit, I do not think of Panerais as a top contender for a "dress watch."

I agree those are indeed "interesting" choices for dress watches! Grin! I am not the slim 7mm thick gold case with 2 shiny hands kinda dress watch guy. I have a 7.75 inch wrist. I thought the Panerai fills in nicely with my suits as understated and clean without being dainty. Hence my choice of these two for a dress watch!

Any thoughts on how "rare" or special one is over the other?
What about the the price? Fair? Is one a better deal over the other?

If those are your choices for a "dress " watch, then the Radiomir is the logical choice. Other Panerai models are NOT dressy IMO. The Radiomir can be with a nice OEM croc strap.

The Panerai Radiomir Black Seal PAM 287 M series arrives!!
A classic! I can't stop staring at the watch!!
The cushion case is a work of art! Much more appealing and timeless than the Luminor case. The Croc strap and its deployant - luxurious!
Definitely dressy and goes well with my French cuffs and suits!!

I know this ain't a popular choice amongst Paneristis, but do consider it and you will be surprised how beautiful it is in the flesh.
