the new Galactic chrono which I think is the same as the now discontinued Chronomat evo but with the compass bezel. I believe the bezel is brushed or satin on this new one. So, what are your thoughts? Could this a new model that has everything we like about the Breitling of yesteryear?

To me it looks like they had some leftover evo cases and dials and they decided to throw a buckified compass bezel on it. I actually think that font doesn't look too bad on this bezel, but still not too good.

:yeahthat

I do think the compass bezel looks better than the B01 bezel, but not sure if I am 100% sold on it just yet. Have to see it in the flesh.

Nice looking watch though

Font looks fine on it to me, and I prefer this new style of bezel to the old one. Same distinctive "Breitling" look to it, but its more up to date and modern. It would have been nice if they put it on all the new Superocean models as well.

I don't dislike it. That's about the best I can do.

This is clearly a transition piece. They had extra cases and dials from the Chronomat and created a short lived model. I'd say the same thing that happened to the Skyracer - they had cases to use up and decided all remaining would be Raven or "Rainbow" models. As soon as both these cases are used up, the models will disappear.

And frankly (here I go again) it doesn't boost my confidence when a brand slaps stuff together as temporary models.

What I really find funny about this modernism in which Breitling is engaging is the over use of "Galactic." It's a 1960s word for crying out loud! Ya know, back in the day when everything from bowling alleys to Hotels had the "space theme" design? Every other roadside motel had the word "Galactic" in it.

Or I could be wrong. NAH! :nana:

I agree with Sharkman about the temp nature of it. But i actually the bezel looks good on this. Comparing this model side by side with pictures of an Evo, i think i prefer the Galactic.

I think it's a fantastic looking watch and one of a few stand outs from all the new Breitlings.

Shame it's not got the B01 movement.

However, you could buy a B01 and stick this bezel on it. I'm assuming they're the same size, of course.

Just forget it.

They have to use up old cases, they have on stock. It won't stay in the collection for long.

That just seems stupid to me...why not continue to produce the Chronomat Evolution until you run out of cases and dials then? For that matter keep the Evo in the line-up since it is the best selling series that they have.

One thing Breitling is (in)famous for is once they make a decision, it's done. They announced the end of the Chronomat Evo. If they have extra cases/dials, they will put them in a temporary piece until they are gone. When it comes to the Evo bezel, I suspect the tooling for that is already gone. Obviously we will be seeing this compass bezel on other models. I can't believe they tooled up just for a temporary bezel.

Or not - there isn't much they I doing that I understand anymore.

That's the new BB bezel we're looking at right there. No doubt in my mind at all. (And I actually reckon it looks OK!)

I forgot who said this in another thread, but the many of these "new" models just look like frankenwatches made from the parts bin at Breitling. The only new model that I really like is the Transocean. Other than that, they look uninspired and drab.
