Roff, if it's any help, the CA 69 did not have a signed crown, so I would say that one is totally genuine. I know this as I was looking for one of these for over a year, but I eventually discounted it for exactly the same reason that you said - basically it's a quartz watch (albeit a hybrid quartz with a mechanical chronograph module) and quartz just doesn't yank my chain.

And you are also absolutely correct about the fully automatic CA Rattrapante being a limited run of only 25. They were SS cased but with a white gold bezel........ and I have NEVER seen one for sale! If one came up (and if I could afford it!) I'd be trying to snap it up!

Good to know Driver 8, thank you.

I hate to think how much the auto CA Ratty would go for, serious money for sure. We really do need more DB Breitlings, seems like most of them are Japanese market exclusives.

@ acceldebt - yes, I know what it looks like - and I am aware that I can get it from my AD cheaper than at Authentic Watches when you factor in taxes and duty.

Of course the cost could be significantly more if the wife is that PO'd.....

I've bought myself a couple more days to tear myself up over this decision - anyone know a good therapist

@Roff, one thing I never understood is why Breitling made the CA 69 (and their other hybrid rattrapantes) with a DB. After all, with the exception of the column wheel when the chronograph is running, there is very little else actually going on on the back of that particular movement. I don't know why Breitling think we wouldn't be interested in seeing the rotor etc on normal autos..... Beats me.

Just buy that Legende Roff - you are clearly swaying that way!

Breitling does seem to have the impression that people won't buy DB autos - it doesn't make sense to me, but what do I know.

The only two recent ones that I know of (other than the auto CA Ratty) are the Navitimer Quatre and the Shadow Flyback - both Japan only models.

I agree sticking a mechanical chrono on the back of a quartz watch (even with a rattrapante complication) is not something that I would choose to showcase with a DB.

The Legende is definitely calling - if I do pull the trigger I'm definitely going to go the deposit route to try and make it easier to live with - but if I do that how long I can hold out knowing that it's sitting in the vault with my name on it is anyone's guess.

Coming from someone who's middle name is 'impulse', I can't quite believe I'm saying this (and going against absolutely everything I've read so far) but I think you've got to pass on this one. Sorry Roff, and believe me I do understand the predicament, but it's a bit like me buying cars - and I've just said "no" to an S3.

I'll regret it - until the next 'bargain' comes along.

Sure it's a beautiful piece (the watch, well, the S3 as well actually), but I have a sneaky suspicion that your original post was more of a "convince me PLEASE" than a "which is best" kind of post.

If you need to be convinced, then it's not a good deal - jeez, you're buying this for you not the forum, however much we all go on and on about what's best (for everyone else!)

Don't fall into the trap mate - step back, take a deep breath and say '"No".

Ian

I appreciate that Ian - in all the joviality on here, the fact that it's full of sincere, 'good' people is sometimes lost.

I think you may be right about the convincing, but not about the watch, more the timing. The watch has been on my list of 'must haves' for a while - there is no doubt in my mind that I want to own the piece.

However, it wasn't top of my immediate 'need' list - the DB Cosmo was an opportunity buy, and that added to the dressier end of the collection which led to the Skyracer / SA / Blacksteel debate that eventually resulted in me getting the Blacksteel. The SOH 38 doesn't really count as that was for my wife's birthday / our wedding anniversary (same date).

I was planning to revisit the Legende at the end of the year when I have to straighten out my company money vs. my personal money to maximize personal tax allowances, etc.

The fact that I can get the watch now for $1,100 less than I can get it for at year's end is really the issue for me, and I guess I was looking for convincing that it was OK to buy yet another watch in such a short period of time.

I freely admit I came to the wrong place to ask that question

I appreciate the sentiments!

As for cars - I used to have expensive cars, now I have a long commute that kills $100,000 cars as quickly as it kills $25,000 cars (I live 155km from my office), so I save my money for Breitlings. When the commute is shorter I'll go back to the cars (and Breitlings).

I'm glad you took it the right way, at least!

In terms of how many watches in what time frame, don't look at me. December 2006 - December 2007 saw 12 purchases - sheer madness! Add the one I'm waiting for (Panerai) and the two others I've ordered, I've no place telling anyone how to organise themselves...

Go with your heart Roff, at the end of the day I feel sure that the finances will sort themselves out, but just be sure to do it for YOU.

Sporty, the voice of reason??? Wonders never cease!

Wise words there Sporty.... but then I've never been accused of being wise!

As I've said on here before, at the end of the day these things are luxury goods and never worth getting into debt over(!), but I guess with all the banter sometimes some actual (heaven forbid!) "good advice" gets lost.

Anyway, what's with all this sudden outbreak of sensibleness!?? Eh?

Come on, we're Breitling Addicts, and as we all know addictions NEED to be fed!

Personally I'm planning to sell my house (worth several thousand Breitlings), my car (a few hundred more Breitlings), my girlfriend (maybe a springbar. Two if she wears makeup! ), everything, to buy more Breitlings! At the end of the day I feel sure I can survive on little more than the warm and fuzzy feeling I get from opening a Breitling box for the first time. Food? Pah! Shelter? Leave it out! Just gimme more Breitlings!!!!!!!!!!! :D

<Poster's Disclaimer - Under no circumstances should the hard-of-brain (or indeed anyone else.... and ESPECIALLY my girlfriend! ) believe a single word I say in this post. Nor should you accept any type of advice (financial or otherwise) from me. Thank you>

Holy cow Driver 8 is rich!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

House worth several thousand Breitlings - let's think - even at an average price of GBP2,500, and if "several" is only 3 - that's a GBP7.5mln home.

Car worth a few hundred - well that's getting on for a GBP1mln car.

And all you offered to contribute to the fund was your girlfriend, I mean a spring bar.

Heck I'm getting the Legende and sending you the bill. If you want to send the girlfriend along I'd be happt to do a test drive and see if she's worth a springbar
