Yeah, I know. It's still a dumb name for a watch. I'm just glad it ain't on the dial.

That's the reason that I love the Flying Fish, one of the few nice things to see from them in the past week. It has the black dial with black sub and batons. That's the perfect dial for this watch in my opinion. Plus it's brushed, how great is that? And just a touch of a red accent with the red seconds hand. They really hit a home run with that one. Dumb nickname and weird font aside, I think this can stand up next to the Navi 01 and the TO as THE Breitlings.

I think it's a small step in the right direction, but in my opinion, it still suffers from similar problems as the standard 01: for one, it's still got the Buckified bezel, although I grant that making it brushed helps it not look quite so garish. Also, although I like the black-on-black color scheme, I still don't like the square pattern on the dial. Finally, it does not appear to be available on a Pilot bracelet, which is a must-have for any Chronomat I would own (unless I got an older model with a bullet bracelet). Per my tastes, the FF isn't even close to being "THE Breitling" to own.

Funnily enough I actually don't think it's all that horrendous, particularly on that watch. It's not great and I wouldn't necessarily go for it myself but I don't think it's hideous. Nice looking watch too by the way. Two out of two from Tudor re Basel.

Well the bezel ain't going anywhere, at least with it brushed it looks presentable. As far as the bracelet, that doesn't bother me, I prefer straps. I'm not saying that its the Breitlimg to own but that it can be a flagship model along with the Navigation 01 and the TO.

I obviously meant Navi 01, I couldn't edit my post correctly on my phone.

Unfortunately, you're right. For that reason, I won't be buying any new Chronomats for the foreseeable future. For the kind of cash Breitling wants, I have to LOVE the watch if I'm going to shell out for it; simply accepting a less offensive version of something I fundamentally don't like isn't something I'm willing to do.

Im not a huge fan of the buck rogers font myself, but ive noticed that in person its really not bad at all. The pics make it look so distinctive and noticeable, but in real life its pretty subtle. Similar to the Rolex "ring lock system" on the rehaut. Pics make it look so bold but its not really noticeable in the flesh.

With regards to the bracelet issue on the FF, I'm betting the brushed bracelet from the Chronomat 01 LE will fit it just fine.

I don't like how Breitling put this square line on the dial on the Chonomat 41 and then angled it by the date window. It looks out of place. They would have been better to just leave that off the dial.

yeah that, it is really awful.

oh Breitling, what a fall of style...

I think if that line was removed, it wouldn't look all that bad, even with that bezel.

Fair enough, but will it be possible to order the FF with a Pilot, or will it only come with a strap, meaning the Pilot would have to be purchased at an additional cost?

I don't think the breitling website lists the pilot bracelet as an option for the flying fish. Perhaps you could see if an AD could supply you the brushed bracelet from one of the LE Chronomats? Would that bracelet even work?

They don't list the Pilot as an option. It's shown as available only on an OR and Diver Pro II. It would make sense that the LE Pilot would fit, since it seems reasonable the cases are the same, but that is a guess. I have no idea what the difficulty would be trying to get an LE Pilot by itself, though.
