today i was wearing my SA and i felt that it was a tad to big for me. My wrist size is roughly 7 - 7.25 inches. I could remember a time where I would only look at watches if they were over 44mm, but now everything seems to be changing. Its almost like i feel that the watches i do have might be a bit to large for my wrist.

does this ever happen to you guys?

Same exact thing happened to me, went from a 44mm minimum regardless to a 43mm if a sport watch and 41 mm if a dress watch mentality, allot of it has to do with realizing there is more to watches than sheer size.

very true. i will admit i once use to discriminate based on size but now i think that i have grown a littl mentally. This also might have to do with the range of watches that I own. since i have nothing less than a 44mm. maybe i need to add something in there that would be some large contrast. I never thought i would say this but the new Rolex explorer II GMT (42mm) looks very appealing. Even a Royal Oak Chrono at 39mm seems to wear quite large.

I also agree. For example I've gone off my SA considerably in the last couple of years.

As much as I like the new Chronomat GMT B04, the size (and more to the point the length of the lugs) is a potential concern for me.

the more i think about it the more i realize that when i first started buying watches I bought them based off of what I like at that moment in time. But unfortunately i failed to realize that i cant buy a new watch every year, so i would need to make a decision based on something that i could grow into.

I kind of caught myself before buying many large watches. There were a lot of models I really liked but when I tried them on, no matter how cool they were or how much I wanted it, I knew deep down that they would look and feel ridiculous (7 in. wrist). It wasn't always just the diameter, but also the thickness and weight. Thus, my collection now runs between 40 and 43mm with none over 15mm thick.

I have learned where my sweet spot, size wise, is I believe. But your right, I did have to go through a learning curve and requirements are always changing.

As many of you know I don't sell watches so I am pretty certain that the watch will stay with me and my taste / style for some time. I've also always had a mix of large and small pieces, and the fact that I am a few years older than many of you (but still just in my 30s) may mean that my taste has stabilized a bit more.

I do find that taste changes in other areas, but there isn't a watch in the box that I have 'gone off'. There are some that may not get worn for a few months, but then they'll find their way back into the rotation for a while.

I used to love big watches but now I think 44mm is my sweet spot. I got rid of my Sa after owing it for 2 months. I saw myself in the mirror ,and realized how goofy it looked on my 7' wrist. I am done with big watches.

I think watches are like just about every other material possession. People's tastes change over time and what they once loved and couldn't live without they find themselves not liking it anymore. I think another part of it is the...I guess lusting after something. Staring at a watch, or anything for that matter, for hours on end on a computer screen makes you want it that much more, after you get it the excitement wears off. Of course sometimes there are some things that are just timeless and you'll never get tired of, give me a '67 Mustang and a Rolex Sub from the same year and I'd be happy for a long long time..

Thickness and for that matter any excess bulk is what really bothers me. The SOH is a model that really illustrates the ability to pull of big diameter without being overly large.

As for growing out of a watch....well i am pretty new to the game, but I do think that going forward I will stick within the 43-44mm range. Beyond that, I find myself drawn to more classic stylings.

I too liked big watches at one time and just got tired of people not seeing the watch for anything but its size, plus they are not that compfortable. i stay in the 42mm -45mm range now and prefer the 42mm but i love my seawolf so that will be the largest i own anymore. Steve

One of the reasons that I no longer have a Super Avenger or the Navitimer World (although the World's size didnt bother me that much). The SA is a big and commanding piece of watch. Looked great on my wrist and gathered a lot of compliments. Problem for me was comfort. I couldn't get on with the weight and thickness. Plus I am not the type of person that wants blingy things. I don't wear any of my watches to draw attension and show off, I wear them for my own pleasure. While wearing these two watches, I felt like the people around me were admiring it more than I was.

I did like the World but the need for a PAM was more than the need to keep it. The SA is just too darn big and heavy for me. (even at 7.5" wrists).

44mm is just right for me.

Happened to me too. I came to this site wanting an SA and wasn't prepared to look at anything below 45mm. Now 2 of my favourite watches are 40mm.

What's the matter with you guys???

I've always liked big thick watches, and happy to say my taste hasn't changed...
