I am going to New York in less than 2 weeks and will spend 5 nights there. Will be staying in Manhattan and plan to do heaps of fun things. Yes it is my first time and I intend to have a blast..... but I would also like to buy a watch while im there. The dollar is still relatively weak against the Euro and the American prices seem generally lower than the european ones.

Are there any good places I am likely to get a good deal on a watch? Im interested in either a Skyracer or an Omega Planet Ocean if that matters.....

I know there is a Breitling flagship store just opened in NY.... Are there any other whatch stores youd recommend?

Can't wait to have you visit the greatest city in the world! Please spend all the Euros you can while you're here - we'll take 'em!

Definitely stop by the Breitling Boutique on 57th Street between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue as it is a beautiful store. Now I'm not a watch buying expert but I did recently bounce between the Boutique and Tourneau (multiple locations: 57th & Madison, Columbus Circle, 53rd & Madison) looking for a new Ling and I can tell you that Tourneau is willing to quietly negotiate with a discerning buyer. You probably won't do as well discounting a new Ling as the opening of the Boutique makes that a bit more troublesome for other ADs, but you can give it a shot and you may have better luck with other brands.

As you're a tourist, make sure you stick to reputable looking businesses in the main shopping areas: 5th Ave, Madison Ave, 57th Street. It is very easy to end up in a less than desirable store masquerading as the real deal with a bunch of counterfeit junk for sale. (On this note, most definitely DO NOT do your shopping in Chinatown!)

Otherwise, enjoy your trip here. You'll find that New Yorkers are quite the friendly bunch - for real! If you see a guy in a suit rushing somewhere, don't ask him for directions, just common sense. But most anyone is helpful to our visitors. Oh, and don't walk slow or stand in the middle of the sidewalk staring up at the buildings - even I'll throw you an elbow!

thanks Sterling, I do intend to nudge the american economy on the way a tiny little bit :) depending on what kinda deal I get

Thanks for the tips, Ill make sure I check at least some of them out. Actually one of my friends was saying I should go to Canal Street to do my shoping (not watches) which I understand is in Chinatown, but youre saying dont go to Chinatown?

LOL... nah buddy, definitely go to Chinatown! All I'm saying is that what you're buying there is from China so, you're gonna get what you pay for! If you want to have a good meal, get peking duck at the Peking Duck House on 28 Mott Street. Also order the homemade noodles with minced pork and bean sauce (if you eat that sort of stuff). You won't be disappointed.
