Hello.

How accurate should my watch be? I have a B01 that is less than a week old and it seems to be gaining around 10 seconds/day. is this normal or excessive?

Thanks

The watch is COSC rated so -4 to +6 seconds per day.

However, new watches take a while to 'settle' and get used to being worn and run constantly. Wait until the watch is 4 - 6 weeks old and then see how accurate it is. If it isn't within COSC specs at that point then the AD should regulate it for you.

Thanks for the info. I certainly hope it settles down and gets significantly more accurate. Please excuse my newness, but I assume "AD" means authorized dealer?

Hello,

I also just bought a B01 these last weekend with the same problem : +10sec/day.
After these 4-6 weeks running and now after several months, is your watch more accurate ?
what changes you notice ?
Thank you
Pierre

It's been almost a year now and it's definately a lot more accurate. Most times it gains about 2-4 seconds/day. I'll start watching it a lot closer as I get nearer to the expiration of the warranty. I still love the watch, although I wish I could get the saphire case back from the limited edition model :-(

I have a Chronomat B01, purchased in Oct 2010. It's been on a winder for the last six weeks and is now < 1 min fast. In my opinion the B01 movement is quite accurate and have been quite pleased with with my B01.

On a follow up question on accuracy, what makes a watch gain or lose secs per day? Although I suspect that the reason is the same, why one loses while another may gain?

For example, my B01 loses 2-3 secs per day, while my Steelfish gains 4-5 secs a day. I know that both are within COSC specs though.

It depends how it's regulated. Rate is controlled by the effective length of the hairspring (adjusted via the regulator), and is really an attempt to average out the errors caused by wear - different positions, temperatures, movement, percentage of the reserve that the watch is running at, etc.

All of these will cause errors, the job of the watchmaker is to try and average those errors out to as close to zero as possible.

I bought my B01 in mid December. I just did a 3 day test and it was 14 seconds fast. That equates to a little under 5 seconds per day which is within the specifications of -4/+6 per day.

My Super Avenger is three weeks running (I wear it daily - go figure?) and rest it on it's 9 at night. Firsst week it was running at 4 sec/dy fast. It's now averaging around 2.5 sec/day fast.
I'm happy with that!

A question about variability of accuracy - My Skyracer got more accurate after about a month of wear, from +6 to 8 secs per day to +2 to 3.

But in the last week, or maybe 2 weeks, It's started gaining more like 25-30 secs, which seems a little odd. I gotta take it in for an issue with the date window, but is it likely the timekeeping will return to normal, or should I have that addressed as part of a service too?

In the meantime I'll keep a close eye on it, see if it settles back to within COSC.

Cheers!

That may be a very slight case of being magnetised, or it may be an indication of needing a service, depending on how old it is. If Breitling are working on hte movement anyway then they should deal with it, but make sure that you mention it.
