I have been lurking for a few weeks now and have really enjoyed everyone's insight into the world of watches. I made up my mind that I want my next watch to be a Breitling but I can't make up my mind about which one I want to get. This will be my first big watch purchase in about ten years as I am just now able to recover from getting married and my wife popping out three kids (those things are expensive). My last "nice" watch was a Tag Heuer link but I just don't like the direction that their design has gone and I think that the Breitling watch has a higher build quality and will be more of an investment rather than a fashion choice.

The watches that I have been considering are the Super Avenger, the Super Ocean Heritage 46, and the Blackbird. I thought I was going to be able to play in the $4k price range but my wife is giving me a hard time about donating more money to charity so I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to make it up that high or not. I want a watch that I can wear all the time, shower, swim, dive, exercise, etc.

I guess what I'm asking is in your personal opinion which watch is the best value? Which will stand the test of time? Which is the most durable?

Thanks,

Joe

Cliffs:
Which would you choose? SA, SOH, or BB

What size watch do you prefer? There's quite a difference between a BB and SA.

I am currently wearing a 48mm watch and I think it would be hard to go down in size but I really love the big date on the BB.

I think the blackbird with a bracelet and black and brown leather straps would get you through most any situation you could come across. Just a really cool looking watch that wears well with crocco.

Also....dont sell the BEB Bird short. It is a great looking combo that dresses up a really tough watch

The SOH and SA are both cool watches, but size makes them a bit prohibitive in non sporty occasions.

if you like the big date display on the BB might I be so bold as to suggest a Breitling Bentley 6.75? the watch is 48.7mm and has that same big date window that you like.

That is definitely a gorgeous watch but I don't think I'm going to be able to find it in my price range. I'm actually thinking I'm going to have to lean towards a pre-owned watch in order to get what I want.

There's nothing wrong with getting a pre-owned watch, that's what I did with both of mine and I couldn't be happier. If you check the for sale section here regularly you'll be able to find one of those 4, BB's are a little harder to come by but they do show up sometimes.

As for what you should get, have you gone to an AD and tried on each of them? That's really the best way to decide. Since you already have a 48mm watch I'd suggest the BB, I am a bit biased though, but I still think it would give you a nice change of pace from your big watch and it can be worn in any situation, really a great watch.

Thanks for the advice. I actually have an appointment scheduled for Wednesday at the AD in Raleigh. I'm also scouring the for sale section to see if I can find something that will work. The only thing that worries me is sending a guy $2-3k and getting a fake watch in the mail.

Buy the seller first, and for eBay check in the replica section here to ensure that the watch is real. Add to that the protection of PayPal and you'll be OK as long as you are careful.

I've tried to read up on the replica pages and I assume that if someone posts a fake on the for sale thread here they would get called out pretty quick. Still a hard pill to swallow for me. I can afford to by a $3k watch, I can't afford to give away $3k.

There are no fakes sold here, and if someone tries they are no longer a member.

I had not considered the Hercules before but I've seen a few for sale here and it is definitely a good looking watch. This is the problem with Breitling, too many good choices.

Super avenger is the best bang for your buck! And besides it looks great! my personal favorite is white dial with Arabic numbers with the option of brown croco strap.
