I've been noticing several vintage TransOceans for sale such as this one:



I like the design, and I love the Cal. 12 movement, but I have been lead to believe that the TransOcean is a big, heavy watch.

I have a narrow 6.5" wrist, so while I can deal with 42mm width, I have not found out how tall (lug-to-lug) it is. Anything more than 45mm is too big for me. I just sold my heaviest watch (Omega 176.004 TV-dial, appx. 140g) to a friend. I once had a Zenith El Primero square case that I liked but it was simply heavier than felt comfortable.

Is it likely that the TransOcean will be too big and heavy for me?

I know what you mean Dan... I have a speedie Mark 2 and talk about being "top heavy"... but it's got some good heft and weight to the watch.

In regards to the Transocean, I don't think it's going to be too bad... I have a caliber 11... and plus with these 60's era pieces, they aren't that big... the few big ones that comes to mind are the 806's, c-matic navis, chronomat c-matics, cosmos, etc.... this one will probably be a 38mm... which I think is a good size for your wrists.

I have that watch on my 6.75 inch wrist. Its perfect, not top heavy at all. Like most stainless steel watches on a bracelet it carries a little weight. But it is much, much lighter than my Steelfish. I don't find it uncomfortable at all.

Its about 42mm so won't be too big for your wrist either, especially because it has an integrated bracelet; no lugs to hang off the edge of your wrist. If its genuine, go for it.
