It's at the top Steve! I've amended the first post on this thread to include the "all new and hopefully improved review"! :D

Very much appreciate you taking the time to re-do that, Driver. I periodically get the idea of a Sinn bouncing around in my head as a possible "next acquisition" contender (we actually have a dealer here where they can be seen in the metal), so I was interested to read your views on one.

Great review, and congrats on the watch.

Cheers Otto, I appreciate your nice words!

Just thought I'd make the effort as a lot of people aren't too familiar with Sinn, and there doesn't seem to be many reviews of them out there.

They're definitely worth a look IMO.

Thanks a lot, Coltwales!

I must be honest, I really really love this watch at the moment. It's been my daily wearer for the last week which is pretty amazing for me, especially as it's a quartz! It's just so damn comfortable, and I'm loving the "tool" watch look for a change.

It's a funny thing, but often if your expectations of a watch are lower, you can be enormously and pleasantly surprised, and I think that's kind of happened here with me and the UX. I'd tried on my mates U1 very briefly (which was enough to make me want to get a U series model), but actually owning this one has proved to be a really nice surprise.

I'm really chuffed with it! :D

Driver,
I love the way you write!!! Great review and very convincing!
A few months back you wrote a great review about the LeMans...
I went out and got one... This Sinn is very interesting, except for the servicing part
thanks for the great info

Thanks very much, Spartan!

I have heard that the servicing thing can be a bit of a hassle if you are outside of the EU as apparantly the US (and Canadian) customs have been known charge import duty for the FULL VALUE of the watch when it comes back, and not just against the cost of the service!

However as the UK is a happy and enthusiastic member of the EU ( ), the servicing is apparently almost as simple as it would be if it could be serviced here in the UK. The only difference is the slightly elevated postal cost over to the continent. As I say, my biggest concern is that Sinn stay in business!

Compare Sinn to another brand. How is it compared to say... Oris???

Great watches Oris - their TT1 is a superb model.

However.

This watch is 12000 meters rated - hence it should hold the world record - but it doesn't

The 20000 feet from CX Swiss Military is actually in the Guinness World Record - as the record has been taken away from Rolex.

Thanks for a great review Driver8!

I was seriously looking at the Sinn U1 a while back for a less expensive lake/water watch. I wasn't sure if I would get tired of the 'different' hand design though. Since then picked up a SO.

Always keep checking for any new designs from Sinn (as I'm not much into the bling factor anyway).
Good job and enjoy!

I've had an Oris and am presently wearing my U2. I find the quality of the Sinn well above the BC4 Chrono I had - in all respects.

When the piece arrived from Watchbuys.com (the NA authorized seller) I was disappointed that it ran far too fast. Being gas filled it had to go back to Frankfort. But now it is at a very good +1sec/day.

It is a very versatile watch. I'm suprised you didn't get the bracelet wrenches, Driver - they included 2 with mine! I also recommend the rubber strap on deploy - nicley sizable, closed end, a great look with the matte black dial. I like the "short" deploy version over the regular length which is noticably longer than the Breitling deploy. Too long IMO. I agree the bracelet is not up to Breitling standards (how many are???), but it is close. For a 44mm watch it wears a bit small - a good thing for me.

Also I've found that the bead blasted bracelet is pretty tough - still no marks on mine (or the case). I believe there are now some tegimented bracelets available. The bezel is the only tegimented steel element on my U2, but it is after all the most likely place to be dinged. I imagine you would have to really beat the crap out of it to do any noticable damage.

I'm quite pleased to have this watch.

In actual fact the Sinn UX is rated to "All reachable depths" on account of it's construction. The oil filled case means it simply cannot be compressed at ANY depth under the sea as there's no air inside the case to be constructed. The hideously stupid looking CX Swiss Military is a traditionally constructed watch (i.e. with air inside the case) which means that if you could go deep enough it would eventually be crushed.

@Sharkman - I can't believe they didn't include any allen keys with mine - made it a right pain for me to adjust it. Yes I agree that while it would've been better if the entire case and bracelet were tegimented, the bezel is the most likely to be damaged. They are pretty decent watches as long as you like the real Action Man, tool look!

Now that you mention it - I was going to post my pic on the Get Your Face Out thread, but this seems oddly propitious.
