So first let me appologize for the newbie questions. I've searched older posts for these answers and haven't found exactly what I'm looking for. Hopefully some of you will be able to help me out.

I will be buying a SA as my first Breitling in the near future. The list price for the piece I am looking at is $4,550. I have read here that some AD's will discount as much as 30%. That would put the discounted price down to $3,185. Is this a realistic discount for me to be looking for on a SA? I ask because of a recent listing on a used SA that states the used watch sold for $3,500.

My second question is about the time of year. I am guessing that the demand for Breitlings goes up as the holiday season approaches. Has anyone noticed if AD's are less likely to give larger discounts during this time of year because of this increased demand?

Again, thank you for your help in advance.
Justin

You will also note the scepticism implied by others on the thread that you are referring to.

30% is harder to get these days because dealer pricing increased earlier this year reducing AD margins. Also consider that the SA is a popular model so there is no need to discount so heavily. Mid 20s discounts should be readily achievable, 30% may be pushing it. You may wish to pm jnelson3097 for contact details of George at Govberg - they are a forum sponsor as well. Alternately pm FEAR for contact details of Provident Jewellers.

Christmas is obviously a good sales time, but I haven't personally noted any changes in discounting approach. On the flip side you may find that deals are available in post Christmas sales, although I doubt that too many SAs will be included because of their popularity.

If that SA actually sold for that price, somebody got a terrible deal and clearly didnt bother do do their homework like you are. Dont let somebody elses bad decision affect the deal youre looking for.

Roff, is there a difference in US/Canada prices downtown and at duty free shops?

Because at Geneva/Zurich/Basel airports prices are identical as those you find at ADs downtown.

No idea.

Have never seen any Breitlings at duty free for flights between US and Canada. Intercontinental may be different but my flights tend to be in country or cross border.

I am in Canada. I bought a new SA from my local official Dealer for $3650 taxes in. From what I have read, I got a decent deal.... ;)

One thing to note is the discounts arent always even across the board, some models the dealer pays a couple percent more than others, and im pretty sure the SA is one of them, and the other is availability, super avengers have been on a very big backorder for a while. i know one dealer who has 12 on order and got 2, so some dealers arent too keen to make 5% on a watch that they cant get again for 3 months, lots of things come into play when it comes to a discount.

I bought my Super Avenger from my AD (Ultra Jewels) in Cancun. I've been doing business with them since 2006. They only had two in stock, Blue dial and Hurricane White. They offered a 22% discount. I received a credit for the Value Added Tax about 40 days later. Total discount after tax refund applied = 26%
