I've seen the 323 that you're referring to. I actually posted it in my Grail thread last month but I can't pull off the 47 mm. I also considered the 232 which is less expensive but once again 47mm. The 190 with JLC movement also caught my attention but I didn't like the gold hands.... maybe Panerai's new p.3000 movement will make it's way into some sub 10k rads next year, then I can make a move.

It's pretty funny, all this from a guy who used to think all PAM's were the same :poke:

Looks like I'm going to be a lone voice on this one and say the 268. The 268 has long been my Rad of choice, and I'm also just really not a fan of the Yacht Club. I certainly don't hate it, but I think it's lost a bit of the classiness of the more traditional Portuguese models. Just a personal opinion of course! :)

Cheers

Re price - pretty high. Retail is 12.6K.
Re classy v. Sporty. No doubt IWC is going for a sportier look as opposed to the traditional Portuguese line. But I like having a sporty choice in the line. And really it is a very classy piece on the wrist. I will confess my 2d day was filled with doubt, but it grew on me quickly, especially once I took the rubber strap of and started tying different leather straps. Presently I am using the dark blue/grayish spare strap from my 7 Day and it changed the watch dramatically. IWC has alligator straps for the YC "available upon request." I ordered a dark brown semi-gloss alligator last week and am anxiously looking forward to it's arrival this week.

And I also am a sucker for flybacks!

On a Breitling strap just as a point of reference – the IWC brown alligator for this watch is not contrast stitched –

And on a spare dark blue/gray strap from the Portuguese 7Day (I really like this look, and wore it this way to a fundraiser last night) –

I wasn't all that crazy about the black dial Yacht Club, but it looks great on that strap. Very classy.

Don't buy the/a PAM Sergio, the IWC is much nicer :mrgreen

Seriously though, it's obviously a tough decision but a nice position to be in all the same.

Wow, the straps really change the look of the YC quite a bit! A lot more "classic" looking. Very nice!

Hands down the IWC, not even close IMO but I have never seen the appeal to a Panerai anyways.

pam 268 is not popular because of the damn cyclop...great movement, sucky design. i'd rather own the classic 210 and have cash in my pocket than the 268. the 292 is overpriced for what it is. the new 42mm rad with the gold hands and in house movement is pretty sweet tho.

yacht club is not something that pops up in my head when i think if iwc....especially at that price. agreed with jay i'd go with 7-day port or for a more rugged look the big inge (since BP is out of the question).

p.s. people with no love or don't get panerai shouldn't bring that bias in and reply to this thread...obviously they'd go with IWC. opinions from owners of both brands should carry more weight.

One thing I haven't seen here is Panerai bashing. (not on this thread anyway) Not sure I agree that non-paneristi don't have a valuable opinion to offer here. Indeed there are plenty of IWC nuts on the various forums loudly expressing their love or hate of this watch. Anything this new to the beloved Portuguese line draws a very clear line in the sand. First Portuguese with lume and OMG NO!!! - a crown guard.

But even - "oh man, I don't like anything about that Pam or any others but the Yacht Club is killer" - is a legitimate opinon. It's kinda like evidentiary rules - your objection goes to the weight to be given the opinion, not the opinion's admissibility.

Here's my style objection to the Yacht Club - at a retail of 12.6K the watch needs an alligator strap - it just does. Not rubber.

And my function objection - the W/R is too low. Come on, you named it the Yacht Club, but you didn't up the ante on the W/R.

And my experience - still I'm glad I purchased one. :)

So I went to my AD today and tried on the Yacht Club again...this time with a JLC dark brown crocodile double stitched strap and it blew me away. It went from a super sporty watch on rubber to a classy dress watch...the transformation is very difficult to describe but it totally sold me on this watch. YC it is without a doubt now!

Here's the strap....oh and this watch is pretty filthy also.
