I am an accountant fresh out of school and studying for the CPA exam. Sat for one part already and missed it by 5 points. Anyway as a present to myself and motivation to keep studying I wanted to buy a nice watch after becoming certified. My father has a Rolex Submariner which is nice but I am a big fan of chronographs. I was at my AD looking at all the various watches and decided on Breitling as my #1 choice.

Now the hard part which Breitling should I choose?

Super Ocean Chrono White

or

Avenger with numbers White

Now I have positives and negatives about both so I need some opinions.

I love the size of the Avenger 45mm (7" wrist) and the crown but I like the day of the week and the B on the second hand on the SOC. I also like the contrasting colors on the SOC but being only 42mm looks small compared to the Avenger. Anyway I am sure which ever I pick on the BIG DAY I will be completely satisfied! Prices the dealer quoted me the watches were about $300 apart so that is not a huge issue for me.

What would you pick and why?

How big is your wrist? Unless you have a huge wrist, I don't think a 42mm watch would look small on you. I prefer the Superocean, probably because I own one. :)

I like them both, the Avenger is a helluva watch, but I like the applied 18kt logo on the SOC along with the day/date function and the "B" logo on the second hand so I would go with the SOC. I think it would go very well with a suit, which I'm thinking an accountant would wear, as well as more casual clothes.

I don't think that the SOC would look too small on you, 42mm is still a good sized watch.

Welcome to BreitlingSource!!! I am sure you will find alot of info and helpful foks around here.

As a fellow accoutnant I will say that the Avenger may be a bit aggressive for a buttoned up environment, and you may have a hard time with shirt cuffs.

That being said....I like the Avenger better as a sports watch (read weekend), so it could go either way.

Good luck on the CPA I am in the middle of mine as well.

Thanks for the opinions, the firm I currently work for is very laid back and we don't wear suits. I usually just dress business casual unless I have a meeting with an audit client.

So so far we have

SOC +3

Avenger +0

MUST you have a stop watch function ? IF NOT, you must check-out the windrider cockpit series non-chrono.. aka galactic 41
has bigg date, and is superb. robust, just enuf bling, and very durable........

I don't necessarily have to have the function but I like the look and it would be nice. I run many local 5 and 10ks and don't have a watch with the function right now.

Also just thought of another question. Does anybody let the chronograph just run all the time or let it stay in the 12 O'clock position all the time? And if you were to leave it running all the time would that decrease the power reserve?

I didn't think I would use my chrono often but I use it to time my client billing hours on days I am working on multiple things.

Even if you don't use it it is still nice to have. As far as the power reserve I will let the more knowledgeable give you a definitive answer but I think there are some threads in the past that ultimately decided yes, but not dramatically

Galactic 41 is a siick piece too! I personally would go with a SA over the SO ONLY cause of the diameter. I too really like the day-date and the B on the SO - if it was a 43.7mm or 45mm it would be a no brainer.

GL!

If I'm not using my chronograph, I stop and reset it.

well reading the post its down to personal choice. Both great watches. With regards running the chrono it is a good idea to run it every so often. It keeps the oils moved around the gears. There was a thread a while back about running the chrono all the time and i think is was considered to be no harm and ware to the watch is minimum. As thomas states above power reserve is not really affected in a noticeable way. . . . I vote for the SOC BTW. Good luck with your exams. . . . . :lingsrock:

Thanks guys for all the opinions, I should be done with my exams by Summer 2011 and when that time comes it might just be a coin toss. I know that the new Superocean just came out in 2010, what would be the chances and new SOC were to hit the store shelves anytime soon?
