Just curious about this one... Breitling has some unusually shaped crowns; I'm thinking of the Avenger and the Chronomat (Evo). Are they meant to be reminiscent of anything in particular?

I've heard someone say that the Avenger reminded them of a hand grenade. Is that right? The Chronomat crown just reminds me of an onion! Is it a parachute?

the onion crown is actually the only the thing that has kept me away from that line. To each his own but I don't care for them.

I can see the grenade comparison though. Definitely a watch I would have wanted in an old school land war (Although i am an accountant so what do I know).

It's technically not an onion crown, that has a distinct meaning - see Chronoswiss for onion crowns. They aren't intended to resemble anything as far as I am aware.

I think there are plenty of things that influence design and if you see a clear link between the crown designs and the items you've mentioned, then awesome!

If I understand what the "onion crown" is, it was initially my only hesitation in purchasing my BlackBird, but it grew on me quickly and now I actually find it a very unique look.

As the case backs on certain models resemble turbine engines, I always attributed the design of the Blackbird crown to the nose cone piece found in front of the propellers as found on certain fighters as seen here:

I was wondering if you knew what kind of Crown goes to a Breitling Eclipse Montbrillant i know it is a screw on becuase once I lost it later found it and just screwed it back on. Now its gone again.

Don't know what part number would fit, but it is pretty much the standard circle Navi crown. Rather plain and unassuming as it should be for the watch.

I like the Windrider series crowns. I find them to be elegant and unassuming on the wrist. Of course, in this online world of macro images we can get lost in real eyes looks.

In all, it is like anything else-to each his own. When it comes to crowns I'll be honest, they aren't that important to me aesthetically unless they are proportionally too large for the case. But that is just me.

I agree...I think it is supposed to be reminiscent of a fighter plane's nose cone in front of the propeller. However, it reminds me too much of an orange juicer.
