My local Breitling AD ran a VIP "Meet the Red Arrows Pilots" evening last night at their store, and I had a invite so went along to see what it was all about. All very decent down-to-earth guys, (no pun intended), and they were all sporting their complimentary Red Arrows Emergency Breitlings to great effect!

But a few minutes chatting to them about their exploits and suddenly I couldn't help thinking that something CLEARLY went very badly wrong with my careers advice! "Flying" an office desk all day isn't quite the same......!!!! :(

The Red Arrows, eh?

Great demo team.

As a pilot myself, it would be an honor of being a part of a precision flying team. I bumped into last year's Blue Angel crew (They were on a fuel stop in my hometown coming back from a show in Alaska) and last years Thunderbird crew at our local airshow. Of all the pilots I've had the pleasure to visit with in the pilot lounge, the demo teams by are far some of the nicest men and women (T-Birds now have two female demo pilots) you'll ever meet.

I'd love to see the Breitling team perform, and the Breitling Constellation. It seems they stick to the European circut. :(

As I used to work to a related company I was always present at our National Airshow.

This year, the 18th and 19th of june the following teams will be present :

■C-17 Globemaster lll West Coast Demo Team
■La Patrulla ASPA
■Turkish Stars
■Red Arrows
■Patrouille de France

Over the years it was allways fun to meet those guys, in 2006 the Blue Angels were present though they are a little different from the other teams, a little more distance to others even in the Crew Rest Areas, a little like movie stars.
After the last night I went out with Patrouille de France, Turkish and Royal Jordanian for a few drinks (To Rembrand Leeuwarden) en these guys are really SUPER nice.
In 2006 there was also a World Championship Football, and as everybody knows the Dutch do crazy then, everything is orange then.
I even managed to get orange wooden shoes on some flight crew then, It looks like it was empty then but everybody was watching football on the big screen behind us.

I believe these guys were Rotal Jordanian and Turkish

In 2007 the Breitling Jet team, Turkish Stars and the Swiss PC-7 Team were present.

What remarkable is almost all of those guys are WIS on watches, as I allways used to wear a crown watch they allways were making fun of me.

Most impressive of the 2007 airshow was the bird hit as seen on this video , the Pilot was as cool as a fan.

That's very cool! Was it the whole team or random guys from over the years?

I had a chance to meet a few Reds last year. As you say, all very down-to-earth and just a friendly bunch of guys/girls(first female Red this year).

Here's a nice vid just to remind us of what we're missing! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Zxbcksr ... re=related

You guys remind me of my student days when I had the time to attend a dozen airshows per year:

Tiger Meet, Royal Air Tattoo, Duxford, Spangdalem, Frankfurt Main, Colmar, Buochs and of course Farnborough and Le Bourget among the best known.

I am even a surviver of the (in)famous 1988 Ramstein crash ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUlLawlfbng) of the most crazy acrobatic team I have ever seen: the Frecce Tricolori when one of the three doomed MB 339s crashed just a few yards from where I was standing.

And since there is always a link to Breitling  : the Chronomat was launched in 1984 with a close cooperation with the Frecce Tricolori

 Congrats! I've witnessed a few incidents but nothing as dramatic as that.

Have to agree that the Frecce Tricolori were, prior to their routine being toned down after the Ramstein crash, the greatest aerobatic team out there. Other than the Blue Impulse, I think I've seen all the well known teams and this lot were head and shoulders above the rest.

Another reason why Breitling became my favourite watch!

Yeah, that was a a real pity  But who knows what they would have done next if that incident never happened! It is also true that with 10 aircraft (the most of any other aerobatic team), they have much more possibilities and combinations :)
