Also, in the article Breitling refers to the watch as "Chronomat 01" and the movement as "Caliber 01." Any idea why this is? Did the marketing guys forget to put the "B" in front of the "01"?

I noticed that too, but I don't think that there is too much to read into it. All Breitling calibers are names Bxx, but generally referred to by just the number so I suspect that this is just being consistent with that.

If that's the case, I wonder why they had the "B" in the name at all? I suppose it's just par for the course for Breitling as of late.

Theyve always been labeled with a B. B13, B17, B01 etc. Its common for them to also refer to them as Caliber 13, Caliber 17, Caliber 01 as well (although this is the first ive seen so far for 01). As for "Chronomat 01" goes, I have a feeling that a light bulb went on and somebody finally realized that Bee-Oh 1 sounded pretty ridiculous.

Glad to see that our design team has been busy thinking up ways to bling out the B01. That's more important than the redesigns that are needed. Great job!

Over the top?
Of course! Diamondworks pieces have always been OTT but there must be a small number of people, probably oil sheiks etc, who can afford and actually like them. If you have demand for such an item, then it makes sense to supply it.

Whilst I don't like any diamonds on a Breitling myself, the yellow gold full diamond lugs model is probably the first Chronomat B01 I've not disliked. Maybe it's one of those that's so bad you have to like it. Like a 2CV

To be honest I'm not an lover of diamonds on tool watches.
Watches like ours do not look comfortable dressed up like that IMUHO.
All of mine are brushed steel as you know, however I am not against polished.
They really are a girls best friend and IMUHO should be left for solitaire e rings.

I went to a Breitling event the other day and they had quite a few diamondwork pieces there. All looked very different from both the linked Chronomat B01 and Ron's Chronomat. It was like they had many more diiamonds, in much smaller cuts. I tried a few on and it actually looked quite nice. More of a glitter/sparkle than a single or double row of diamonds. That felt much less hiphop to me. :)
