I was watching tv this evening (HDNet around 8pm CT) and stumbled upon a show about Swiss master watchmakers (aka cabineteurs?). The show focused on two masters (one was Philippe Dufour) and followed production of several creations through to their showcasing at the Annual Basel Fair. The pieces were amazing and you could see how impressive and detailed their craft is. If you ever want to see how a tourbillon is made (or a $500k 1 of 1 watch) - you must see this show.
HDNet is airing the show again at 2am CT (2/28/08), which is probably too late for anyone to take note... I thought I would send the heads up to the board so you all can keep an eye out if it plays again on HDNet.
From the HDNet website:
InFocus Masters of Time: A Complex Clockwork World - The manufacture of traditional analog clocks and watches keeps Switzerland's famous timepiece industry ticking. And although there are also many skilled men and women creating expensive, prestige products using advanced production techniques, there is an elite, the cabinoche, who do it entirely by hand. Enter a complex clockwork world where craftsmanship meets art at a microscopic level.
