Hi everyone,

I`m so happy that I found this forum. I`m new here and need your help in choosing a right watch for my husband. His birthday is today and only last night I have decided to surprise him with the watch of his dreams :)

But I`m lost from here, there are so many different styles and I don`t know what to choose.

I really hope that you guys could help to pick the right one before I go shopping later today.
What questions should I ask a salesperson? I don`t want him to push me to buy something that won`t suit my husb`s taste.
He is a golfer, 50 y.o., and in aviation business, hope this would help..

Many thanks!!!!

I think navitimers are very classy. It all depends on his wrist size too. I wouldnt do an impulse buy though, if your in the states there is a very well recommended AD that many of us have bought from. I know his Bday is today but if he can wait you can probably get a much better price.

actually take him with you. this way you can see his excitement when his eyes get all big. then you can see him act like a kid trying them all on. I think it would be fun for both of you.

try to get as much discount as possible they usually do 15% for starters

as for the watch i wish my wife arrived home whit a brushed blackbird or a navitimer inside her purse to offer me

dream dream...

if your husband has a big wrist maybe a super avenger...

you should done your homework investigating what models he loves the most

but you can´t go wrong whit a blackbird, i never knew a person that didn`t like a blackbird or a navitimer

Well Navitimers suit the aviation element, but if he also golfs then they may not be the best bet - mechanical watches can be damaged by the forces of a golf swing. That brings the quartz (battery powered) watches into play and maybe the Aerospace or Airwolf.

Personally I prefer mechanical so would stick to a Navitimer and take it off for golf.

If the aviation theme isn't necessary in the watch then the Aeromarine range is a little more sporty and resilient - bettwer water resistance so that they can be worn swimming, showering, etc. The Windrider range is perhaps slightly more elegant if he needs to dress up regularly.

In the US, discounts of 20% or so should be easily achievable walking in the door, less in the UK and Europe. Also consider budget - prices can vary considerably, and size - a 41mm watch wears a lot smaller than a 47mm watch. Best advice though - go to a store where there is a lot of variety and look at as many as possible - you know him better than we do.

His wrist is not big and not too narrow.
I know I should`ve done my homework, but as I said it got to me only last night.

Right now he is wearing Tag that looks classy, but at the same time sporty.

I want the one that he could wear it anywhere - on the golf course, business meetings or fancy restaurant.

Is it possible to ask for 15% starters at the shop? Will they do that?
I`m willing to pay between $6000 - $10000 max.

Blackbird and Navitimer look very beautiful, I will definitelly look for them at the store!!

I also looked at the pix of Chronomat Blue Dial Two Tone Bracelet Rose Gold/ Steel and it looks absolutely amazing!!

What would be the retail price for them?

Well then if you have a 10k max buy him two. One navitimer for the aviator in him. Then something else for the golf course.! You might want to also visit the breitling web site and use the configurator on some of the watches and find the perfect setup too.

That Chronomat on a two tone bracelet will come in at around $8,000 or so list. Can you ask for 15%? Sure, but don't. Ask for 30% and see where you end up - seriously!

I really wouldn't wear a Chronomat golfing, so maybe stick to the Tag, or the idea of a second (quartz) one isn't a bad idea if the budget allows, this one - http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... ne_61.html
Comes in at under $2,500 on bracelet.

If you do go for two then definitely hold out for 25% plus discount.

If you are looking for versatility, you might want to avoid blue. Black, white, and silver offer the most options. Also, a steel bracelet can be worn in any environment. Rubber straps are generally more casual and leather/croc typically a little dressier. Take a good look at the Windrider line, they look great with everything.

Sounds like you can’t go wrong, he will be quite pleased. Tell him to save the Tag for the golf course, after he gets a B he won’t care what happens to it!

To buy him 2 watches?? No way!!! I gave up on the idea to get a watch for my birthday in order to surprise him, and fit into our budget at the same time.

If I could spend less than 10k on a good breitling watch for him - it would be great!!!
Then I would still have a little hope to get a watch for myself as well (not trying to be mean to my d.husb )

Well if you get 25% discount on that Chronomat that you like then there is plenty of money left in the budget for a Cockpit Lady for you (gorgeous watch that!).

And mean?

You're talking about spending up to $10k on a watch for his birthday - can you teach my wife to be that mean :?:

I`m back with a very beautiful piece - Chronomat Dial, two tone rose gold/ steel bracelet with black face.

Absolutely stunning watch when you see it in real! I looked through so many nice watches, but this one caught my eye..

It`s masculine and very classy at the same time.

The retail price was around $10 000, but a saleswoman gave me 20% discount (could not bargain for more), so I paid $ 8170 which is not so bad overall.

Thank you guys so much for introducing me to the Breitling World!!

Sorry for the quality of the pictures, we had to do it very fast

My bad on the pricing - I gave you price of two tone with steel bezel, not gold - that's why it was higher.

Beautiful watch, I'm sure that your husband will be very happy.
