Hi all,

I'm looking into buying a 2004 Super Avenger from its' second owner. The current owner has never had it serviced, and I'm in contact with the original owner now to see if he had it serviced before he sold it to its' current owner.

To get to my point, I assume an almost 6 year-old watch will need to be serviced immediately if I buy it now.

Is there a "typical" cost to do a general overhaul? I spoke with Breitling today, and I was told they can't give estimates over the phone, but it could cost anywhere from $100 to $1000.

As I know it will vary from watch to watch and the condition thereof, can anyone offer any first-hand experience with related costs?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Complete overhaul for an Auto Chrono should be around $550.

Is that something that should be done at this point regardless of the apparent performance of the watch, simply due to its' age? Or is it something only necessary if certain functions are not working properly or it is not keeping time properly?

It's almost 6 years old.
You could send it to overhaul, but I wouldn't send it for another year or two if the accuracy is good and overall shape isn't too bad.

As Bnewbie and the other Ling Kings say, as long as the time keeping is accurate you can wait. The time keeping accuracy is the first sign of a need for overhaul. It is the most used, most mobile, part of the movement, and therefore the most likely to show the need for a tune. BTW, congrats!!!! :lingsrock:

BoneDoc,
I've actually since purchased a 2009 Super Avenger from George of Govbergs, so no worries on the 2003 SA maintenance!
However, my new SA is still 9 sec. fast a day after 2 months of wearing it....

I'll be shooting George another email to inquire about regulation. I would think the watch should be fully "settled" by now, no?

Yop,

Just go to the official Breitling website, choose your country and city and you will find the name of the nearest ASS. On top of the page, click on the PDF and you can download the official price list for repairs.

I guess I am not high maintenance. 10/secs a day does NOT bug me.

I'm super anal about all my hobbies/possessions. If it's supposed to be +6 max, +7 drives me up a wall.

And it should.. You pay for a certain tolerance, it should perform there!

I concur! I'm still 8-9 sec. fast a day. I have to email my AD and/or call all my local AD's. One local AD I called said they don't regulate in-house, and would have to send it out to Breitling...
