OK fellas this is almost done here and production will start soon. As last time, I will be paying for the reservation of your watches. If you suddenely backout that means I get stuck with the bill, so please cancel (in the reservation thread) if you are not sure and do not have the cash set aside.

Again, in order to get a discount (this watch would normally cost 1050 Euro instead of the 750 we are getting) a bulk order for a reseller has to be created (me in this case) and as such I pay for the reservation and in case of any cancelations, which worked out fine the last time. Also remember that when I calculate the final fee it is pretty much a guesstimation based on how many Europians versus world wide members we have, since I will be charged VAT for the EU guys and much higher shipping costs for non EU members, also to take into consideration actuall production costs and computer design fees etc etc. We where very close to the exact number last time and should not be too far away this time as well.

Anyway some of you protested the paypal and conversion fees so there is a way to minimize that, especially significant since this LE cost quite a bit more than the last.

That would be to have someone collect the funds from all the members, then deposit them as a single wire to Gunter. This method is much cheaper but direct Paypal is easier and buys piece of mind to those of you who do not trust an individual and would rather pay a reputtable company.

Do vote and discuss.......

I am perfectly comfortable wiring to a member for the sum. Of course it would have to be someone known and respected by all. I would think one of the mods or Admin. No intent to besmirch others, but they are certainly the most widely knwon and most likely to be trusted. Just my thoughts, I would be fine either way. Not a deal breaker.

Also happy with either way... although due to 2 large & unexpected costs which have just come in, I may need to paypal it regardless!

Not missing out on this one due to a silly thing like lack of funds so I'll just have to melt another credit card!!

I am fine wiring to a trusted member of the site (preferably one of the mod).

However, I would like to know the final design details of the watch. We still don't know the lettering on the dial or the caseback design.

I'm also fine either way. Wiring money also generates a fee as you all know but is most likely the less expensive option.

If not one of the mods the I'd be more than happy to wire to Altair if he wanted to get involved.

In terms of payment......

I'm happy to help out, but let's bear in mind that it can be expensive.

For a start if you are going to wire money to me it needs to be in Canadian $, so you will not only have fees, but also exchange rate issues. Additionally, I then need to send to either Altair or to Gunter, which will mean another exchange rate transaction and fees.

Admin is also in Canada and Driver8 is in the UK so there will be a double exchange rate issue for most buyers whoever is involved.

should we then not use a member that is already in the EMU so to avoid conversion fees?

Sorry guys (and I may be being as thick as a whale omlette here) but I'm not sure I understand the rationale with paying Gunter via a third party. :huh

If you pay via Paypal, you'll be stung for fees whether you pay a member on here, or Gunter direct. I'm not sure how your banks work, but mine charges for Wire Transfers, so I'd get stung that way too.

Surely the options are -

1. All members pay Gunter direct by Paypal or Wire Transfer. Those using Paypal will pay the fees, as will those using Wire Transfer if their bank charges for it (like mine does). And that's it, all done and dusted.

2. All members pay a 3rd party "consolidating" individual here, and pay the same fees as in the first option above, BUT when the condsolidating individual pays Gunter (either by Paypal or Wire Transfer) they will incur a second set of fees..... which (unless they're insane!) I'm sure they'll pass on to the buyers - hence everyone pays fees twice. This to me, seems a much more messy and more costly option......

At the end of the day Paypal is only 3 or 4%, so on 750 Euros we're looking at 20 to 30 Euros extra..... and paying direct you get much better peace of mind.

I think the thinking is that the wire fees would be less than the PayPal fees. In my case, they are roughly the same, however. For me, an international wire transfer is $35. The PayPal fee for a $1000 international transaction would be little under $40. So it's about the same.

A domestic wire is $25, so that would save me a little bit of money if I could wire to somebody in the U.S., provided the receiver's bank doesn't charge an incoming wire fee (mine does...it's like $10 or $15 or something).

Really, it seems like I am better of just wiring to Steinhart directly, or just giving in to PayPal.

Gunter will not take multiple wires from multiple members, aparentely that is harder to keep track of. The proposed savings are about 20USD per watch, I personally preffer the paypal option as it saves time and effort for all involved, plus we need to find someone whole lives in the US and someone who lives in the EU for thsi to make a difference.

Paypal it is, will update you when the time comes.
