I'm a Planning & Control Engineer for an Oil Company, here in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. But I go a lot to Scotland, where we have business too. I'm 29 by the way.

Um abraço a todos.

By training I am an astrophysicist. But over the last few years I have drifted into high-performance computing full time: I worry about how to make big, expensive computers do science. I gave up the chance to get a secure, tenured job as an astronomy professor in order to do this, but I absolutely love my job. I still work at a university, but I am completely reliant on federal funding (i.e. "soft money"). My principle benefactors are NASA and the National Science Foundation, with a little help from the Department of Energy.

The one problem with being in academia, however, is that nobody recognizes a nice watch even if you bash them over the head with it. So I never get any complements.

I'm a process engineer working in contaminated land/remediation. Basically I coordinate the design, install and operation of systems to pump and treat contaminated groundwater from oilspills/fuel terminals/chemical plants etc.

Thinking seriously about joinging the dark side and helping the polluters in oil and gas. For some reason the evil ones always seem more likeable and easy-going to work for than the do-gooders :)

My primary source of revenue is computer programming. I work for an international company who is big in the IT world, especially the intelligence community. Yeah, I know, military intelligence is an oxymoron!

I'm also a private pilot and fly volunteer dog rescue missions for Pilots N Paws. I've flown 35 dogs to safety this year from shelters that were going to put them down. What a great excuse to burn fuel!

Actually, I trained as a watchmaker about 50 years ago. It was just about the time Timex introduced the disposable (inexpensive) watch and the Swiss were fighting with the US about parts. Everybody looked at each other and said "Well I guess it's time to find another career cause we sure can't make a living working on a Timex." So, off I went in search of a future. I've had several career changes over the past 50 years.

I still do watch and clock work on a regular basis as well as collect a few. Just put my '69 Cosmo back together a few weeks ago and am in the final stages of tweaking the regulation. It's a great pilot's watch!

As it says in my profile, I am a chemical engineer in R&D for a large French-owned company.

We make most of the "active ingredients" in shampoos, hand soaps, and pretty much anything else you use to get clean! In fact, you most likely have washed your hair today with something I helped develop!
