Not sure if this should go into the feedback section or the off topic section.

However, recently bought a used watch and thought I would use Google Checkout for the transaction. When the transaction exceeds a few thousand dollars, Paypals percentage quickly starts to hurt. At least Google Checkout has a lower percentage, which is maybe not great but at least better.

I made the payment, and after three days (!) the funds still hadn't been withdrawn from my credit card. They seem to claim that the larger the amount, the longer the verification process takes. It's great that the want to verify buyer and seller, but not when it takes days.

The really bad thing was that I only could cancel the transfer for the first 15 minutes, and not for as long as the funds still were with me. Luckily the seller could cancel the request and we then used Paypal instead. Otherwise I suspect we would still be waiting.

It'll take a very long while and a lot of positive feedback before I ever use Google Checkout again.

I'm not sure I understand the problem. It isn't like anyone stole your money here.

If the seller was creating a new account through Checkout, it is a normal part of the process to verify them before allowing them to receive a large credit card payment. Otherwise it would be easy for credit card thieves to siphon money from stolen cards this way. Paypal does the same thing with new accounts.

I use Checkout all the time and it works great. But it was designed for web merchants, not person to person payments like PayPal.

Sorry if I was unclear in my rant.

The seller was verified since long with Google checkout. The verification was for my credit card.

The problem is that a service claiming to compete with Paypal (with instant transactions) taking more than three working days, as they didn't manage to take my money in three days, to complete a transfer.

As this happened I took the time to google for problems with Google checkout and discovered that this seems to be quite common - it takes forever to get a large transaction through.

If that is their practice, why just not use a regular bank wire? Takes about the same time and cost less.

You're right, I didn't lose any money, but I sure didn't get the fast service I expected.

And in the interests of full disclosure, let's remember that dhalem works for Google.

I'm sure he know more about the way that Google Checkout works than the rest of us, but might also understandably support his employer.
