Hi folks,

I've been lurking here on and off for a while and decided to join in the fun! What an awesome site and community this is by the way. I feel priveledged to be amongst the great Breitling enthusiasts here.

Anyway, I've been away from Breitling for a couple years and decided to pick up a Colt II Auto a month or so ago from a well known AD and I'm really quite delighted with it. It has all the Breitling quality in a wearable size that I can take just about anywhere. I'm kind of surprised that it's not more popular, at least on the Breitling boards. It fits my 7.25 inch wrist just perfect. Now all of a sudden, I'm getting the urge to add a new Avenger with one of the new dial styles for the new year!

On a side note, I have noticed a couple of things I thought I'd ask about that I don't remember from my previous Breitlings. When I unscrew the crown to set /wind the watch, the tube threads are visible. Did Breitling change to this recently? I could have sworn my Chronomat Evo had internal invisible threads. Secondly, I don't remember the clasp being so noisey and rattling somewhat when the watch is worn on the wrist. My Pro II bracelet closes with a tight snap and the safety clasp is tight as well. However, there seems to be a slight bit of play in the safety "flip" style clasp when fully closed that causes it to rattle. I don't think it needs tightened because it opens and closes with a hard crisp snap. Any other Pro II owners notice this? This may well be part of the design but I just dont remember it from previous models I have owned.

The Colt II was my first B. I think the reason its not so popular has to do with the number of other awesome pieces that Breitling has. You look at a company like Omega, who has the hugely popular SMP (which I would say is comparable to the Colt) which I attribute to the fact that they only really have a few different dive models to choose from. Its almost a case of "how much do you wanna spend? PO or SMP?" Breitling has so many choices that most of us get carried away and buy things that are way more than we had initially expected to spend. I spoke to my AD the other day and she said that the Colt is popular as a first B, but many of the owners end up coming back in the future to buy a more expensive model. Other than the size, I think its a perfect basic watch. I love the dial.

Anyway, the threads on the chronomat are hidden IIRC. Not sure about the Colt, ubut I can see the threads on my Skyland. As for the rattling, ive found that it rattles a bit more if you have the micro adjustment on the tighter settings.

My pro II does rattle a bit on the safety flip side. I was wondering if i was alone myself...

That is a very neat watch !
To tell you the truth, I used to shut my chronolog when it reached colt's , i am tempted to go back and open it now !

Id like to add to what RJRJRJ said, the absence of a chronometer could very well make it a less popular model

I think that you mean chronograph, it is a chronometer.

I really like the Colts and it frustrates me when people refer to it as 'entry level' - to me there is absolutley nothing entry level about it, it's simply a different look that adds variety to the range. Breitling is obviously known for chronos, but I like a lot of their non chronos for the simplicity - a nice counterpoint to some of the more 'busy' models.

That's exactly what attracted me to the watch. For me, it was not a money thing at all. I was simply looking for a quality time/date only watch in a reasonable size that I could wear just about anywhere and I think I found it in the Colt. I also appreciate the fact that the price of the Colt, relative to other Breitlings, also makes it a good "entry level" choice for many folks.

A few years ago I used to own a Steelfish and a Chronomat Evolution (long gone and eventually replaced with an IWC Aquatimer Chrono) so I am somewhat familiar with the brand and the quality it offers. I'm still very attracted to the brand and probably always will be. I'm at the point now where I wouldn't mind having one larger watch (44-45mm) as long as I have one or two in the 40-42mm range. That's just what works for me...

Now, if I can just get my safety clasp to stop clanking..lol!

I have exactly the same watch. Got it last week and its perfect for me size wise and much less bling than I thought it would be. I also bought a Seawolf in titanium which arrives next week. Dont know which of the 2 will see more wrist time but I see the Colt II as a dress watch and the Seawolf for when I am travelling for work. Also have a Seamaster which I think is going to get neglected as well as a Doxa Sharkhunter which frankly I find to be the most disgusting looking watch (well made) I have ever see and which I hope to see the back of.

Did you adjust your brachelet yourself or did the AD do it ? I adjusted mine myself, using scotch tape, as advised here, to avoid scratches, the Doxa's screwdriver and a toothpick. Still have to explain (thinking of excuses) to my wife why I have two new Breitlings in two weeks.
