I've been "listening in" on this site as a guest for a few weeks now. I looked through every topic and category on this forum. Read hundreds, nay, thousands of posts. Over and over again I looked through topic after topic, search after search, for some 12 step program or some clinically-based methodology you use here to rid people of this stupid watch obsession. Then it occurred to me that you - the "Full Ling" members of this forum (and 3/4 ones too) - are probably keeping a proprietary program such as that to yourselves. I deduced one had to become a member of this forum to avail himself of its true secrets and powers. So I took the challenge (well, after getting the green light from my wife).

I did the trigonometric functions to calculate whether I was born before or after 1996 (BEFORE! SCORE!!!), I read those Terms & Conditions and even agreed with most of them! I spent hours devising a unique, original and captivatingly cool username, spent hours calculating which number is even among the odd ones (are even numbers like prime numbers or are those the odd ones?), I even got through the riddle-like logic trap of “Select No if you are Not a Spammer” – that’s a double negative so if I say yes I am not a spammer then I need to answer no, no wait I’m not a spammer so I say need to say yes I am a spammer because two “no”s make a yes… it was all very intensely confusing and emotional. Finally, I had to confirm my registration by staring at that picture thing and trying to see the number sequence… I stared for hours. I hit the reset button like 20 times. Finally I found a picture in which I could discern a discrete series of numbers... or was it letters? Finally - REGISTRATION COMPLETE! I was IN!! :D
So here I was - on the inside! One of the privileged elite! Members Only. The upper crust, cream of the crop. I had that Tina Turner song playing in my head "...your simply the best/ better than all the rest/ better than anyone..." Man that woman has some long legs! You know who else has long legs: Shania Twain... I heard she lives in a castle in Switzerland, Oh, but I digress… So despite being a (newbie) member I still have found no discussion, no thread, no section, no forum or topic area that helps me understand and reconcile why I am willing to throw more money on a watch purchase then I am willing to invest on a new refrigerator and dishwasher for the kitchen, or my kid’s college savings plan, or my poor mom’s heart surgery (you’ll be ok mom, just keep taking the pills). NO! To hell with all those, I’m getting me one of them pretty Navitimers! OK, so I am not that obsessed, just really want to have that John Travolta aviator thing going for myself. But in looking at this forum for a cure to this compulsion, or at least a solid medical explanation I can leverage with my health insurance plan, I found no such thing. None! Quite the opposite, in fact. What I found was utter overwhelming misery! In the short short time I’ve spent on this ridiculous site, seeing what you people have, I have decided I (still) really really want a tricompax (I learned that term here) Navitimer… but first I want a SuperOcean Heritege Ltd Ed, a 125th Anniversary Navitimer, a Montbrilliant Datora, and definitely one of those waaay cool vintage Jupiters; then the tricompax Navitimer. If I stop paying my mortgage I could easily have these, in a matter of months…

Perhaps now you better understand, more fully appreciate, and can better relate to me and my plight. I just want to live a normal life, not go broke and homeless buying watch after watch. I thought I would find some help with this issue on this forum, but instead I feel like the jaws of a giant Breitling brand bear trap just slammed shut on my leg (FYI, Breitling bear traps – super nice!). Perhaps now you understand why I say this forum sucks! :lingsrock:

Oh… Hi… My name is Gai (pronounced ‘guy’). I’m from the city of Baltimore in the USA. I work in a large hospital. No, I am not a physician. It’s nice to meet everyone!

I wouldn’t mind living in a castle in Switzerland….

Oh you're going to fit in just fine..............

I don't quite understand the problem though - if all it takes is not paying the mortgage why all the melodrama???? Just don't pay the mortgage, get the watches and be happy!

Jeez it's not that complicated!!!

Oh yeah, and welcome

Love it!

Be warned, there a few "people" on this forum that are not as "loose" as you and I. I found out the hard way (bashing) and have since joined another forum. It's amazing to see the difference in "tolerance" between groups.

Good luck.

Thank you everyone! I'm excited to be here. I appreciate the welcome posts above. I've started selling off my 1980's era GI Joe collection on eBay so I can get my first modern Breitling.
