Hello fellow ling-lovers,

My first time here, and I come asking for help. I own a Chronospace, and have done so far 13 years. The movement in the watch was replaced within the warranty period back in 1996 when it malfunctioned after just three months, and since then I have had the replacement movement replaced too......

This year I took the watch to a dealer to have the battery replaced when the watch stopped, only to be told that the movement needs replacing again.

Is this right ? Should a movement need replacing at a cost of 600 Euros or so every five years ? Is there anyone I can approach to see if something can be done about the situation ?

I love my Breitling, but I'd love it even more if it didn't cause me so much grief :(

It depends whats wrong with the watch €600 seams a touch expensive when I have just picked up two of those movements for less than €100 each, still I suppose its cehaper than scrapping the watch.

Is this a breitling AD telling you this,If you are in the USA i'd speak to BUSA or the head office wherever you are and tell them you are not happy.

I am just buying two Chronospaces and they are both less then you are paying for a movement change. :wowzers

Hi Sonyman,

I'm in France, though the warranty replacement in 1996 was done in Guernsey, CI/UK, and the second one was done in St. Martin (Caribbean, French side).

I have no details of what was wrong with the watch each time other than the "movement needed replacing". This year I'm close to Biarritz, and while I accept that the 600 Euro mark is high, that is what they quoted. From memory (1999 or so) I think the Caribbean repair was about $350 US. I'm sure the Caribbean repair was not a Breitling one, as the watch was returned far quicker than it would have taken to get it back to Europe and back, but this time the watch did go to Switzerland and was returned with a Breitling slip of paper.

Any thoughts ?

I suspect that the default answer on these is to replace the movements because getting parts to repair is very difficult.

From what i have been told because these are modified ETA movemnets and since ETA are no lonegr selling them then Breitling are no longer replacing movements for tehm,But that may be wrong

If that is the case, what would I be paying Breitling 600 Euros for then ? Some other movement ?

You have a pm, Sonyman. Thanks.

With quartz watches "movement needs replacing" seems to be the norm when submitted to Breitling for repair. I've had it happen a few times. You should know whether you have issues or not with the watch that would require it to have a replacement. I always say put a new battery in it and send it back. I actually had an Aersopace project watch a few years ago that did need a replacement movement (water damage) and I bought a new movement off ebay for $150 and sent that along with the watch to Breitling and they installed it for me. Pretty good service.
