Hey Mark,
What movement is in this one?

Cal 8500 Co-axial. Their new in-house movement, 100% designed and assembled by Omega, but parts are likely made and supplied by ETA and other Swatch owned parts suppliers so some people debate the term "in-house".

 Jeez don't say that! You'll put me off buying one!!!

Those WUS lume shots are great! Funnily enough that's not something they let you try out in jewellers shops!

In terms of the old "is the 8500 a true in-house movement" debate, I'd categorically say that IMHO it is an in-house. There are very few watch manufacturers that will make every single part themselves, so 99% of in-house movements will have parts that are outsourced. For me, the single most important thing with an in-house is that you won't find it in any other brand (or if you do, as in the case of the Zenith El Primero, you should at least own the movement in a watch made by the originating company). The 8500 is designed and built entirely by Omega, although some of the parts are made within the group. In fact in many ways I feel the 8500 is MORE of an in-house than those by some other manufacturers, because all the parts are made within the same group.

I love this watch.

I agree regarding the in-house issue, but I also don't really care, as long as it is a good movement, unique and accurate, I'm happy. This movement is designed from the ground around the co-axial escapement, so that alone makes it unique and special. So far, +1 after 24hrs. Respectable.

I couldn't resist, I had to try it on rubber, pics are loading on Photobucket as I type this. Bloody awesome.

Crazy watch, Mark! I love the bezel and the bracelet... though the case is not really to my tastes. I do think its a beautiful watch, however!

You know, a few times I have looked at this watch and thought... "I wonder how it would look with a normal case without the button and crown guard??" but then I think it is those features that gives this watch its mystique, its uniqueness. I think without them it would just be another tool diver like the Trimix or Stowa.

My wife laughed at it the first time she saw it, she said "you've really lost it now". Today she looked at it and said (unprovoked), "I really like it, its really growing on me. The more I see it the more I like it".

Hey Mark,
The first shot looks like a black dial, and the second like a blue dial. While I was at the AD picking up my Railmaster, I could have sworn the one they had in the window was a blue dial. Not trying to insult your photographic skills, but I am wondering just the same.
Cheers,
Carl

What a great design - Omega makes some very nice watches, and that is right up there.

Mark, that's fantastic. :D

You're right, it grows on you. There are 3 of them in the window of the Omega boutique down the street from my office, and I'm increasingly fascinated with them every time I walk past. Very, very striking watch when you see it in person.

Lovely blue lume. Seems like a lot of watch manufacturers are going for blue on their dive watches these days - well, two that I can think of : Rolex and Omega. Looks great.

Citizen has used it for a while too. Personally I couldn't care less if it is blue or green, as long as it is bright.

Mark, this might have been asked already, but what does the button on the right side of the case do?
