Hi everyone,

I don't know anything about watches so I'm looking to you to help me try to figure out if this is a fake or not. I spoke with a watch repair shop in Tampa and explained as best I could over the phone what the watch looked like. He said he couldn't give me a definite answer on it's authenticity until he examined it personally. But he asked me if it was heavy and I told him I could weigh it and it's 5.8oz, he said usually the fakes don't have as much weight to them. I was mentioning that it needed a lot of love and that I thought the glass needed replace because it had a purple/blue hue to it when you tilted it sideways (I thought from sun damage) but he told me that was normal on the real thing and that they don't really put that much effort into crystallizing??? the glass on the fakes. Someone said to try to open the back and see if it's stamped Switzerland or China/Japan but I have no idea how to remove the backing. BTW if you tell me this is fake it won't break my heart, really...I didn't buy this piece. A friend of mine is helping to tear down a house for new construction and he found in the floor boards. If you tell me it's real well then that's a bonus and I'll take over to Tampa and have repaired/restored, then sell it and split the profit with the guy who found it.

Very very fake I'm afraid. And that watch repair guy who thinks you can authenticate a watch by its weight is an idiot.

Thanks for the replies...I really didn't think it was. It seemed to rough on the back esp. to be real. I'm not going to waste my time going to Tampa with this thing...guess I'll just give back to the guy who gave it me. Boy he's gonna be real disappointed. You're help on this is much appreciated :)
