Hi,
I bought these 2 watches while enjoying many a Singha in Thailand. I did not buy them because i think they are real, replicas or anything like that, I bought them because i thought they were nice looking watches, regardless of what "brand" they had stuck to them. They are exactly the same apart from the colour, which I thought was something same-same but different.
Fair go, i was in Thailand! :) 555.

Anyway, I have a couple of questions, the first being, are these even knock-offs of actual Breitling watches, and secondly, does anyone know if it is illegal to sell/own a watch that is not an actual copy of an original? Apart from a trademark issue, using the Breitling/Bentley name, if it's just a made up watch of left over bits and pieces, or some generic watch that they stick brand names too, does that infringe any copyright other than using the name? And in today's market place, where I can buy from many internet stores selling replicas, is it something i should be concerned about?

Thanks for the chance to post. I can't find anything that resembles these watches anywhere, so I thought apart from someone else being able to identify them, they might be of interest to others as something they may not have seen before. Either way, i still think they are quite an interesting looking watch, although very difficult to work out when under the influence of too many Singhas!

OK, I know they are fake as in not real Breitling watches, but what i meant to ask is are they fake copies of actual watches, or just fakes?

Because, technically, if they aren't fakes/copies of any other "real" watches, wouldn't that make these originals? ;)

They are not an accurate copy of any genuine Breitling model, if that is what you are asking.

No, they bear no resemblance to any genuine Breitling.

My understanding is that in most countries, it is not illegal to buy/own fake goods. It is the selling of fakes which is illegal.

No. The watch is a figment of the imagination of a designer in China and could just as easily have Rolex/Omega/Tag etc on the dial.

So long as you don't plan to sell it, you've nothing to worry about. Just don't take it into a Breitling dealer or expect anyone here to admire your watch!

My first "Breitling" was a POS knock-off from Canal St, NYC but it only fuelled desire for the real thing and within 12 months I owned a genuine one. Start saving!

would a $3 note be fake - or would you call it a homage ?

Cheap nasty fakes that not only look nothing like the real thing they are ugly. It is also against the rules to discuss them and I am locking this thread and your other one before the replies start getting a little more 'direct'.
