I know it's difficult to tell the real from fake for this model

Here are a couple small parts of the watch to compare, the comparison of the image on the left is a fake (I took it from a site that sells fakes), the one on the right I took from this website.

Look at the 6, the middle of it is curved on the fake and straight on the real. Also the 11 is not curved at all and is spaced more on the real.

Here's another side by side comparison - the one I referenced above is on the left, the one on the right is another auction which seems legit.

I think this is fake, I may be wrong, what do you think?

The tells are the date font - was just looking at mine before I noticed your pics - thanks for sending me upstairs for no reason and the rounded corners on many bezel and dial. corners are very sharply defined on real one.

That the font on the two dates - the numbers 2 - are different.

They are always different if you compare one digit "2" and two digits "20".

Hard one for me to call as the pictures are not the best. I think there has been at least two versions of the bezel numerals on the real model. (Hardly surprising as the model has had different names - SO II /Abyss/ 42). One version has sharp outer corners, the other has a slight radius on the outer corners. On both versions, unlike the fake, the internal corners are not radiused (The inner corners of the ‘0’ digits are the best check)

I compared it to mine, which I set to 20 last night, but here is a pic reset to 24 and the font of the 2 is the same on 20 and 24. But bigger tells are the corners of the bezel and dial numbers - on the gen they are sharp, pointed corners. Take a quick look at the 60 on the bezel.

I'm not surprised. Only one part of one pic was out of focus - the bloody watch face itself. Nice one of his thumb nail though. And the $25 clasp on the DPII was perfectly photo'ed as well.

But, TBH that SO44 bezel difference Breitling threw at us mid production year has me scratching my head over IDing some new model fakes now. But as far as I know and having had early and later production run SOIIs, the bezel numbers have not changed.


On the list of good fakes above, a couple notables left out - Evo and Steelfish.

Yes, there's one of the latter in another recent thread, which was very hard to spot for a rookie as I am.
