OK so it's not Breitling, but it deserves to be pulled. This same offender listed the same pics on WUS, and a member paid the money.

Sorry old chap, I can't find any 100% reliable reference pics of a real IW3789-01 to compare. But from what research I've done, it looks to me that the big telltale is, as you state, the red paint of the fuselage extends too far up the hand relative to the tale wings. I've also concluded that 33538xx is a known fake s/n range, so it would be interesting to see if this one has it.

Here are a few authentic shots. If the one on ebay is fake then it's a pretty darn close copy. The holes in the caseback don't seem to be milled very well.

From a completely untrained eye it certainly looks of lower quality. The whole thin looks sort of sketchy in an odd way

The seller's feedback looks ok though.

The seller has 100% feedback so if they are selling fakes they must be pretty good. I agree this one looks dodgy, looks like the case back has been clumsily removed, look at the damage! I don't think it looks as convincing as the one shown in mfserge's authentic shots.

Not a Breitling, but still a fake so I've moved it to this forum.

That'll confuse 1952. I moved it out of the Replica Breitling section because it wasn't a Breitling

Are those dial markers wonky on the eBay watch? (six and three especially)

 Oops! Oh well, I guess either forum will do. (Maybe we need a non-Breitling sub-forum! )

It's boggling to believe from 444 transactions nobody knows they have a fake watch yet.

It's not necessarily the case that the seller is aware it is (if it is) fake. The fakes of these are pretty close to the real thing to the uninitiated so it's possible that an enthusiastic but naive buyer might well have purchased it in good faith for a 'good', but not suspicious price and wants to sell it on for a quick profit.

The reason i am convinced that its fake is not only for the points i raised, but also because the exact same pictures appeared on a WUS sales thread, and it was called out there aswell. The seller disappeared without explanation, from what i recall.

The hand post tubes are poorly finished compared to the genuine pics above

the WUS thread:
