HI! I hope someone can help me, please. My wife purchased a Breitling Bentley (or so we thought) at a yard sale and attempted to post it on e-bay. She immediately received an email saying that it was a fake and then ebay removed it. All of my research (admittedly only this evening) shows that it is real. In other words, none of the things I am told to look for from a fake are present. Is it possible that this person recognized a fake from one tiny ebay picture? If so, how? Any suggestions please? We plan to take it to a jeweler, but I would like to be a little more informed first.

Is your watch a white dial Bentley Motors A25362 with a large chip one side of the glass and serial no. 713071 on the back?

If so, your watch is a fake I'm afraid. Compare with a real one http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... ey_17.html
Note the subdials on yours are much closer together and incorrectly marked. The serial no. is also a common non-unique one used on copies of this model.

Thanks for your reply. You obviously know your stuff. I have several further questions if I may.
1) Everything else that I was told to look for in a fake doesn't seem to be present (i.e. embossed, not stamped full logo etc)

2) Is there a market for a fake ("replica")? Yes, it will be advertised as such. If so, about how much could it be worth?

I'm in the UK so we don't have yard sales but we do have car boot sales. The chances of finding a genuine Breitling etc at one of these events is similar odds to winning the lottery... twice... on consectutive weeks!

The reason it was for sale was probably because the previous owner could not sell it through the normal legitimate methods (jeweller, ebay etc) because it is a fake.

If I were you I would accept you've been "had" and throw the watch away.

It's not cool to wear a fake Breitling!!

It is against the rules of the forum to discuss the sale of fakes. Depending on where you are it may also be illegal to attempt to sell it.

If you want to post pictures then .jpg files up to 250k can be attached to your post directly - fields below the main message posting box and it's pretty much the same as adding an attachment to an e-mail.

Normally if it's too good to be true then it is, Breitling for bentley watches are exspensive items and if real shouldn't be a problem to sell ligit therefore chances of one being in a yard sale is 0.0 . I would have understood if you had got it at an auction sale at an discount price. Beware these fakes are getting better and better, however I do not agree in purchasing any sort of fake watch.

If you are in the US, it is legal to purchase or posess a fake watch BUT ILLEGAL to sell or offer for sale. Smash it well with a hammer - it will feel great - and throw it away. Why risk it over a $50 fake?
