Chaps,

I'm not that clued up on straps. Can someone comment on this. I understood on genuine ones the diagonal grooves on the back don't go right up to the edge but stop 1mm - 1.5mm from the edge of the strap.

Tricky - it may be an earlier version (the one with the embossed logo on the Tang buckle, rather than the raised) - I've had a few of those over the years, and the strap looks almost too black and glossy compared to the later version. Another tell-tale was that the genuine straps were almost always one piece, whereas the fakes had a 'seam' down the side of the strap - then I found a NOS from an AD that had a seam too.

The only real giveaway on the better fakes is the quality - the rubber tends to 'whiten' after a few folds on the asian replicas, whereas the OEM versions were much more robust.

I've not come across a good fake of the new type raised Breitling logo on the Tang buckle - though it will no doubt only be a question of time...

Mike

The grooves on the back of my (raised logo tang) strap go all the way to the edge.

If you're thinking of buying, ask Andrew Michaels for a price. I paid the same for a brand new one as this guy's BiN for a used old style.
