Hi, just found this forum and gained a great deal from it. I am buying a second hand ling for bentley tonight and wonder if you experts can give me the tips to ensure I am not buying a fake. It will be coming with paperwork and box but in this day and age anything can be faked. What are the killer checks I need to make? By the way he does not have original purchase receipt due to length of time. Thanks in advance for your support |

Maybe the experts on here can give you better advice if you state which model you're buying |

It would be even better if you could take one or more high-res pictures and post them. The pros here should be able to tell you if it's real or not. It would be easier than trying to take a crash course in spotting fakes. There are a lot of details to look for. But at the very least, you will need to tell us which model you're looking at. Otherwise, there's no way to tell you specifically what to look for. Every model has its own 'tells.' |

Sorry yes makes sense it is a bentley motors T as gar as I am aware with a blue face. That is all I have. I have no photo as a friend of a friend is selling. I will see tonight and will buy there and then as I know there are other interested parties but do not want to get ripped off! |

Easy spot. The fake Motors uses a standard Asian 7750 movement so the 3-6-9 sub-dials are for 30 min chrono, 12 hours chrono and 60 running seconds whereas the gen has 60 running seconds, 6 hours chrono and 15 min chrono respectively. There is also the usual sunken date wheel problem as with all 3-6-9 fakes. There's also a quartz model which has a 24 hour sub-dial at 3. Just have a pics of the gen with you and you shouldn't have any problem confirming it's real. Edit - just found a pic of a fake Motors on my hard drive. On the left with the gen alongside for comparison. ![]() ![]() |

ok here is a photo - best I could do - the sub dials seemed wrong compared to the current stock so I have walked away - have I done the right thing? |

I didn't even think to advise you to check to see if the second hand jumped; I just assumed if the guy was trying to pass off a fake in person, he'd at least have the good sense to sell an automatic. But those subdials are a dead giveaway anyway. Good choice walking away, Bob, and good idea to check here before you bought. I'm glad you didn't get burned. BTW, do you mind telling us what the asking price was? |

Ade113 - Thanks for your help in making me feel better ...... it had "limited edition" on the back so I just was concerned that they had changed the dials!!! wow - my bat senses came into play well then.... JacksonStone - Thanks for your support you certainly helped keep my thoughts clear - can you believe £1000 for that!!! I also questioned the price as felt too cheap |

Bob mushroom wrote: can you believe £1000 for that!!! I also questioned the price as felt too cheap Good instincts. One of the ways to spot a fake is if the price is too low for what the watch is purported to be. £1000 is a lot to pay for a cheap POS fake, but not much at all for a Breitling for Bentley. He was asking less than 20% of the full retail price of the real model when new. That's pretty low, especially considering he was claiming to be offering it with box and papers. The irony here, though, is that if he was deliberately pricing it low because he knew it was a fake, then he's guilty of charging an obscenely high amount for knowing what it was. Yeah, I'd say your bat sense was working. Even though you're new to this, you knew enough to have your guard up, and that saved you. Just be glad it wasn't one of the better fakes that can be tricky to spot. |
