Found a couple of watches that I am interested in that look OK but thought it would be useful to get a quick once over from you guys. One is already gone so only this one left. Steelfish 2006 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 500wt_1156 |

The Steelfish has undoubtedly one of the absolute best replicas out there. I would not buy one without unequivocal proof of authenticity. I would want to see close up pics of the back of the watch with serial numbers proving that that paperwork matches that watch. I would also get a really good dial shot as well. The seller doesn't seem to reputable either. His feedback shows he has sold this Steelfish in the past with a dissatisfied buyer claiming the item was not as described. Elwyn |

Elwyn Particularly the black and white dials. The blue is usually distinguishable to the trained eye even in pics without great detail. I took a white dial fake to my AD to "test" what the "professionals" know compared to us amatuers. I showed it to them and said, "What do you think?" They looked and said something like "Nice watch." I said "But it has a big flaw." I let them inspect it and they found nothing. They were shocked when I told them it was a fake. I spent about an hour talking about the reality of the fake market of which they were utterly clueless.Presently there are tells - date font, shape of the "s," rounded screw, etc... But at some point one must assume the Chinese will up the ante. There are only a few small things they have to change. So even if everthing looks just right, pics of the case back serial # consistent with warranty book and COSC certificate are essential. |
