Post subject:  Did I get a fake??

I'm really hoping not but wanted to ask a question.

I picked up a Superocean Chrono from a very established poster on WUS forum. Everything about the watch looks and feels right to me - except for ONE thing.

There's no serial number on the caseback..... :?

I emailed BUSA asking them about checking the authenticity and status (ie is it stolen) of the watch, but they never got back to me :(

Can someone verify that there should indeed be a serial number in the spot below the model number? Is there somewhere else on the watch I can check for one? Is there a way for me to search to see if it's stolen?

Thanks for your help guys.

Some grey market dealers remove serial numbers so that in its self does not mean it is a fake. post some good quatliy photos of the face.

I have a Super Ocean which has a Serial No below the model No, but i've bench polished the case so much I can barely make it out,it looks to me like yours may have been excessively polished too,but unless I'm mistaken, looking through a mag glass there seems to be the remnant of a number(poss. 8) just about visible in your photo.Cheers.

One thing to check - Is there a Breitling "B" on the side of the bezel between the 11 and 12 o'clock positions? It should be very delicately engraved. If its not there or crudely stamped in, that's the sure fire sign its a fake.

Perhaps the experts on this board can confirm that the fakers have not yet got this right yet?

hmm, that's very interesting about the engraved "B" on the bezel. I honestly can't recall if there's one on there or not. (I don't have the watch with me at the moment) Here's the link to the original sale thread if anyone wants to see all the available photos - I'll post more/closeup/higher quality ones when I get home

Watch looks real to me, but the partial paperwork suggests that it is a grey market watch and therefore has probably had the serial number removed (something that many grey market sellers did until recently). That will be a problem as Breitling won't service it without a serial number.

is there anywhere else on the watch they put a serial#? One would have thought they'd hide one under the lugs or inside the back or whatever. That's really disappointing about not being able to service it. I take it there are other ways to get it serviced if needed? (just not "authentic" breitling service?)

Thanks guys.

There's a movement serial, but not relevant to this discussion.

The movements are based on generic movements so any competent watchmaker can service, but they won't be able to get Breitling parts.

There are a few Breitling authorised independent centres - J.D. Watchworks in San Francisco has been mentioned as very good on here, I'm not sure what their policy is.
