I read a post on another forum from someone who said people on replica sites are actually spending the money to mod fakes with genuine Breitling parts. If both the dial and bracelet were legit I'm guessing some watches would be quite challenging to ID as fake? Why someone would drop a grand to modify a fake doesn't make sense to me, but does it surprise me, nope!

It's not new.

There is a whole community of people who try to build 'perfect' fakes by including parts of real watches. I don't get it, but the community is generally fairly good at policing themselves. We had a member here a few months ago who posted an SA that was genuine except for a fake case and he was actually banned from the replica community that he was part of because of trying to pass it off as genuine here.

I read that same forum,bandit, and it very scary.

Roff, I remember that poster. How did you know the case was fake when everything else was real. The case seems that it would be the easiest part of the watch to counterfeit.

I just don't understand why anyone would spend so much on authentic parts just to have a half authentic watch.

Pictures are gone now, but from memory it was virtually impossible to tell even side by side.

Friend has a Rolex that everything is real except the case - doesn't seem to make much sense. The watch is 18kt gold (I think it's 18).

Whilst it is possible to doctor one of two fakes with genuine parts, it would be difficult to do it on a commercial scale.

Getting hold of a bulk supply of dials would be tricky as Breitling will only redial a (genuine) watch as part of a full service and wont return the old dial.

Yes, exactly. But the odd ebay listing of, for instance, a SOH46 made with an OEM date wheel will make detecting it's dubious origins difficult.

Plus the Chinese fake industry has invested a lot the last few years to make some very close models. While the bracelets move a little different than a Breitling bracelet, one not versed in this would not have a clue.

So the combination of supply for OEM parts (I suspect many more fakes are sold each year than genuine Swiss watches- demand and supply is massive!) plus the quality of the mass produced fakes (not the lower end ones) suggests to me this new deal will be mostly for hobbyists and perhaps a very small cottage industry. While it will leak into the secondary market and is cause for extra caution, it likely will not become the replacement fake. IMO.
