Anyone know if Japan is a good place to go shopping for a Breitling?

I'm sure there are fantastic stores there, and the Japanese fitting site has prices in yen, but does anyone have any idea about what sort of discounts (if any) are generally available at Japanese AD's?

Thanks

I'm not sure about Breitling but if I was going to Japan I'd be looking at getting a Grand Seiko. Good luck though.

Hello Otto,

I partly live in Japan so I can help you. There are several great places to shop for a Breitling in Japan with a lot of models in stock. However, when it comes to discounts you will not get very far. If you're in the country as a tourist you will get 5% off (no VAT) but that's about it. Japanese philosophy - if you're buying a luxury item, then you have the money. No discount.

Depending on where you come from, the "no-discount-but-5-%-off-from-VAT" might still be good - if you're European...

Thanks aleister, that's exactly the information I was after. Much appreciated. Not really surprised, I have to say.

No problem at all - glad to be able to help.

Sorry I wasn't paying much attention - now I see you're from Australia... :) How do Australian prices match the rest of the world?

As far as I can tell, more expensive than the USA but cheaper than British prices. To generalise based on a few models I've looked at, maybe 20-25% more than US prices.

The Australian dollar is strong at the moment, which makes buying watches while I'm overseas a lot easier to justify. :D

I agree with the response above, in Japan most places are very expensive... especially department stores like Takashimaya, Hankyu, Isetan, etc. The US tends to have a better price, there was one Japanese place in the US (Anshindo) that had Breitling until 2 months ago. Even Anshindo in Japan their head branch prices are very high.
